    Real Estate Sale Fees

We just did this We just sold our house FSBO. Not a million dollar sale but It was our fourth home to sell this way. Selling a home is not hard if you have a qualified buyer. All it takes is one. Get a good title company and they will take care of the title insurance and closing. All the...

Moving to an apartment in retirement

Update to the update All, We found a home to rent for the same cost as the apartment we had reserved. An added benefit is that we will not need additional storage in a locker and will save on pet fees (we have an old cat). This gives us a needed pause to find an area that we would be...

Moving to an apartment in retirement

Update So after a blistering experience trying to secure an apartment in Maryland and Pennsylvania ( so we could be close to our grandkids) we have come up short. I guess our Midwestern needs are what have brought us to the consensus that those areas are much too busy for our lifestyle. We...

Moving to an apartment in retirement

The problem we are encountering is that apartments are also being booked at breakneck speed. We were unable to secure two that we were interested in. In six weeks we will be without a place to live. This is not going well as of today. Of course there are no houses either

I agree... We like having a house and will find apartment life a bit of a shock but hopefully we will be gone exploring enough to make it seem bearable.

Eastern Pennsylvania area and general moving questions

Thanks for the reply. I do see some properties that would fit the bill for our needs in Berks, Lancaster, and Lebanon. There are a few in the other counties you quoted but are less affordable. Our criteria includes having a good health care system and being within a couple of hours to a major...

Eastern Pennsylvania area and general moving questions

How do you like the Harrisburg area? That was kind of on my radar already so thanks for the thumbs up. We are currently in southwest Michigan and was looking for a similar situation..in a suburb with the opportunity for a small outbuilding for a shop.

Eastern Pennsylvania area and general moving questions

Eastern Pennsylvania area and the art of moving without a clue. We sold our house in Michigan and are looking to move a little closer to where our kids (grandkids) moved to out east. Eastern Pennsylvania makes sense to us since our kids live in Connecticut and Maryland but we have no idea where...

    Taxes in a retirement year

answers... In a nutshell: Lump sum pension rolled into TIRA, no capital gains, no TIRA withdrawls, Total withholding @ 22% (Federal/FICA/State of Michigan). I moved most of my first three paychecks into Roth space and maxed out TIRA. I am fortunate to have a company subsidy for retirement...

    Taxes in a retirement year

Good morning: This question may be obvious but I thought I would ask anyway. I retired Feb 29th 2020. I was paying taxes in the 22% bracket prior to then. Since my income for the two months is below the 12% bracket ($103K; MFJ), I assume I may get a refund for the year since I was still taxed...
