Creative ERs - books, blogs, music and art created by our members

Retiree Roth Conversion Decision Model I retired at 50, and for years read recommendations to do Roth conversions, usually with the suggestion to "create a model", but I kept putting it off. Finally, two years ago at 63, I did do a model, and put enough work into that I thought I would put...

    Turning Off "Optional: Investigate" Options

Thanks. I've resolved my understanding problem. I had selected a fixed return portfolio along with an Investigate item and was confused when I changed Investigate back to the default and the graph remained a single-line one.

    Turning Off "Optional: Investigate" Options

Is there a way to turn off selections made in the Investigate section? Once I select one, or change selections, I am unable to de-select at least one and get back to an page with no selections. This requires me to start all over and input everything again to have no Investigate items selected...

Roth Rollover Calculation Software - After Retirement

I have an Excel model I created to analyze the Roth conversion issue and compare alternative conversion plans. I'm currently working on an update for 2014 which will be out in a few weeks, but the current version is available via this thread at Bogleheads: Retiree Roth Conversion Decision...

Delaying SS OR take IRA distributions early

Glad you like it! My plan is to update it for 2014 tax rates etc. in January, so look for a new version then.

    The way to ER immediately?

What's round trip airfare to Hawaii these days? That's got to eat up a bit of his $5,000. I suspect he's not counting any welfare benefits he may be getting, like food stamps. That said, at least he's not living under a bridge or on the street. And there is something to be said for the...

90 days in - its been an emotional roller coaster but I feel pretty good.

I love retirement. After retiring at 50 in 1998, and immediately moving to a rural area and building our dream house (a bad financial decision as we discovered four years later when we moved back to mid-city urban), we continued our careful spending ways that made ER possible. But now that...

Delaying SS OR take IRA distributions early

I created an easy to use Excel model for analyzing the Roth conversion decision, and it includes RMD calculations and tax calculations. A link to it on Bogleheads can be found in my profile.

    ER Roth conversion plan

My model handles spousal SS benefit or separate spouse benefit. Although it's intended to analyze the Roth conversion situation, I noticed that it also could analyze the SS benefit start date decision so I added that as a bonus feature, but it's not the main intent of the model.

    ER Roth conversion plan

You bet. I hope people will find it useful as a starting point in evaluating the Roth conversion decision and process. I know I wasted years putting off the suggestion of "just do a model" whenever the topic came up at Bogleheads and so when I finally did it I decided to put in the extra (a...

    Another decision to be made...

trapper, your situation reminds me of our own in many ways, except I retired at 50 and did use the 72(t) provision to make penalty-free withdrawals from my IRA prior to 59.5. Unfortunately I kept putting off modeling the Roth conversion process until after I had started SS benefits for both of...

    ER Roth conversion plan

I created a Retiree Roth Conversion calculator a couple of years ago, and it's available through the Bogleheads thread on the topic. I think anyone planning for Roth conversions will find it of use. Check it out at: Bogleheads • View topic - Retiree Roth Conversion Decision Model I don't...
