Taking SS at 69 instead of 70 - Yes, yet another SS question.

I'm turning 70 in Feb 2023. Have toyed with getting it earlier but really didn't need the money and I'm the high earner, so want the DW to get the max if I go before. I figured out I"d get an extra $17 for every month I wait. My Dad lived til 98 and my mom until 94. I'm in great health...

    Internet phone service

Thanks for everyone's response. I decided to go with the Ooma Telo Air 2 since it seems to offer the most convenience in placement. We will see how it goes.

    Internet phone service

It's not me so much as the DW wants to keep the landline phone number as literally hundreds of accounts have that number. So just trying to keep the better half happy.

    Internet phone service

Does Ooma allow you to keep your land line number? MagicJack does so I was leaning there, but if Ooma is good, I might go that route.

    Internet phone service

We are moving and thinking of ditching our land line and moving our phone number to a VOIP type service. Have seen good things about Ooma and MagicJack. But would like user experiences and comments. Thanks

Blue Ridge Parkway & Shenandoah National Park - Mid October - Any Tip

It's a beautiful trip. I loved it but after a couple of hours my wife was bored and the kids were asking how much longer we had to go before the hotel :-)

Why can I not stop thinking about paying off my mortgage?!?!

We are building a new house and I have 250K at 2.68% 15 year. Once we sell the house I may have enough to only need 150K of the loan but at that percent I think I'll only apply enough money to reach the 250K and use the remainder to invest. When I take SS at 70 in a few months that will be...

    Social Security at 70

I'm 9 months away from 70 and think I might take it at 69 5/6. Will make a nice Christmas present. But at 78 3/4 (break even point) perhaps I'll regret leaving that $34/month on the table.

How have you reduced competition in your ER lives?

I've gotten into "non-competitive" sports like scuba diving and bird watching. We all enjoy what others have seen or where they have been. No need to compete just enjoy doing it.

    Rising equity glide path

I've never changed anything for years. But then I'm not clairvoyant. Change means you have a 50/50 chance of being wrong.

Poll: Your 2021 Taxes Federal Tax Rate

It doesn't really concern me. I just pay what TurboTax says I have to and the Feds and State seem happy about it.

Career advice for one of my kids

Get a degree and then become a Naval Aviator like I did. Do crazy bat **** stupid stuff and live to tell about it. Travel the world with a bunch of other aggressive Alpha types and live a life for 5 or 6 years that you will never forget. Then go on to a ho hum life like everyone else.

Article and comments on USD as Reserve Currency

"Fed’s $5-trillion money-printing orgy" This says all I need to know about the author. I guess he would rather have a deep recession with deflationary pressure.

    What was your greatest epiphany?

Waking up one morning and looking at a 50+ man in the mirror. Made me realize how fast time goes by and there is nothing you can do to stop or slow it down.

Morningstar: The State of Retirement Income

Those are as good of guesses as any. Probably true that future yields won't be quite as good as in the last 30 years.

We Can’t Afford Our Home Anymore!

I'm praying this seller's market lasts 3 more months as we are building a house and need the one we are in to pay for it. With my luck in real estate the market will tank in June which is when we want to sell.

    OneDrive -- make it stop!

On the other hand, OneDrive saved my bacon when the backup to a WD external drive failed on me. I would have lost thousands of files. I don't really think there is a "privacy" thing to worry about as there are Petabytes of data that is encrypted. It really wouldn't be worth their time to try...

    Biggest Worry

Health is the biggest. Without it, it really doesn't matter. Civility among us. Seems like people will go crazy over other folks beliefs and try to trample on them. Goes both ways. Seems there has to be more in common than differences in the US.
