Getting rid of WEP and GPO?

Ditto. Was planning to take SS at 62, given DW would get no survivor nor spousal benefits due to WEP/GPO. Also impacted my thoughts on Roth conversion strategy, as I may push SS later and spread out Roth conversions longer. My bottle of champagne is in the fridge now… the extra $20k/yr not...

    A5 Wagyu

There is good reason that the A5 is sold in smaller quantities. It is extremely rich and 3 oz is plenty for one person. You absolute need to have someone prepare it properly, as one doesn’t cook it like a regular steak. It is a treat and worth experiencing att least once. The steak just...

    pay taxes on Roth Conversion

I’m considering a Roth conversion before the end of the year. Question, is it possible to have my financial institution pay the taxes to the IRS/state to avoid the late payment penalties as part of the conversion, then redeposit monies into my IRA from my brokerage account, categorized as a...

Did I do the right thing going mortgage free before retirement?

Still remember the awesome feeling when we sent in the large last check to pay off the mortgage a few years before retiring. I don’t know anyone who regrets owning their home free and clear. This topic has certain parallels to the question: do you regret taking Social Security at 62! Make...

    Encounters with the famous

Won a contest about 20 years ago that gave me and DW (and 4 other couples) a chance to meet Joe Montana at Cuvaison Winery in Napa for a meet and greet and bbq demonstration. After the cooking demo, lunch was provided in the winery caves. Before entering the caves each couple was invited to...

    Fidelity/Vanguard fees and minimum invstment

The way I read their statement, I thought their fee applies to transfers to other institutions at well, “ or transfer of assets to another firm”. So if you left the dollar in an account, you’d still have to pay the fee for the transfer.

    Fidelity/Vanguard fees and minimum invstment

Just reviewed an email I received from Vanguard that provided information on their updates to fees. One fee caught my eye and left me with a bad taste in my mouth: Account closure and transfer fee: A $100 processing fee may be charged for account closure or transfer of account assets to...

    Monthly Grocery Expenditure

Ditto, but we do takeout once a week. Prime steaks, king salmon, free range chicken and some Morgan Ranch hamburger… along with appropriate pairing of high end wine. I used to track but don’t bother anymore. Don’t even get me started on the cost of the Kona coffee we drink :eek::eek:

Wendy's to add surge pricing to menu items.

Some CEO’s are just tone deaf. As already mentioned, dynamic pricing to offer discounts during non-peak periods might help but not for increasing prices during peak. Reminds me of the Kellogg’s CEO recommending serving cereal for dinner as a cost effective alternative…

    Tankless water heaters

+1 Just like having a gas stove. With unreliable utilities in California, I like having the ability to use my stove and have hot water in power outages.
