    Stupid diet tricks

Hey Chuckanut! I can't message you. So therefore this small off-topic question in this thread: I love your tagline. Do you know who it's from or are you the author? :)

Someone talk me out of buying a Nexus 7 2013

Oops, I though you were thinking of the upcoming Nexus 5... but you're dreaming of a tablet. I have no use for tablets, laptops are handier, but couldn't live without my smartphone. I'd go for a Nexus 5, but that's just me. :-)

Someone talk me out of buying a Nexus 7 2013

If you don't already own a smartphone, by all means buy it [EDIT: OOPS I THOUGHT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT THE UPCOMING NEXUS 5]. It's the one device that has most improved my life. :-) I haven't spent money on a GPS app, I just use the free Google maps app. It's no-frills, but it works fine for...

    Calvin and Hobbes

I love them too. Bill Watterson isn't making any new ones, but you can get an old one every day by "liking" this Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/dailycalvinhobbes And you can find specific cartoons using the Calvin and Hobbes Search Engine: Calvin & Hobbes Search Engine - by Bing...

    Calvin and Hobbes

Wish I could post this on Facebook. But those friends who are in the know might accidentally spill the beans on my stealth retirement (at age 44) and others might get jealous. So I'm just leaving it here.

Antioxidant Resveratrol Blocks Many Cardiovascular Benefits of Exercise

I wonder what we can conclude from this study, if anything, for people who are not "older men" and who don't do "high-intensity exercise". Also, did the group that was supplemented get any measurable benefits (from the supplements) that the control group didn't get?

    Poll: When did you ER?

I recently got out, but I'm not making too much noise about it, as I'm not yet sure that I can STAY out. Gotta get my expenses down and my investments in order. :-P

Music tastes as I get older

What makes me happiest these days is trance music. It has an audience with plenty of 40-50-somethings in the Netherlands. You even see people in their sixties at these parties. Quest 4 Trance pr. 'The Final Prophecy' after movie - YouTube

Music tastes as I get older

I've noticed that my musical taste hardly changes when I'm in relationship and evolves when I'm single and partying. I'm in my fourties. Used to be a metalhead, but these days I prefer electronic dance music.

    Supplements

I almost agree, but there are exceptions. For example it is well documented that vitamin D deficiency is rampant, and eating healthy food and exercising don't protect against that. Yes. I get my nutrients from real food when I can. Oh yes. :-) Like all industries who are trying to sell you...

I need help planning a robust on-site backup system

RAID is good protection against disk failure. However, it doesn't protect against accidental deletion/modification, so it does not replace a good backup system, but it is a nice addition. :)

I need help planning a robust on-site backup system

I have a NAS on my home network (basically a hard drive with some extra features, that you can plug into your router). My computers automatically synchronise with it daily. This is done by SyncBackSE, which has a number of interesting options, like keeping a certain number of previous versions...

    Supplements

My favourite supplement is vitamin D3. It shows in my blood work as more adequate vitamin D levels, which are associated with a lot less health trouble in the long run. And that's what I'm shooting for. If I wanted to feel more energetic I'd get more sleep, get exercise or take certain...

Elderly Woman Dies After Nurse Refuses To Give CPR

:( Some people in their 80s are very happy to be alive. My mother nearly died of a cardiac problem around that age, but was saved by surgery and is now leading a happy life, taking care of her granddaughters very often, etc. And I'm very glad she's still around. I'll be turning 45 soon and...
