What should we do with money we want to pay off our mortgage with?

Thanks - good edit. I changed it to reflect 8% return, I'm not sure why I put "interest."

What should we do with money we want to pay off our mortgage with?

I am curious if anyone has any advice. We have a 30 year fixed @ 4.25% that we refinanced last year so our payoff date is 2040. I am 33 and my wife is 32. Our #1 financial goal is to have this paid off in 20 years (this is our ONLY form of debt). We also have every other Friday payments set up...

I need some job/career advice - thanks in advance

Thank you all for your advice and perspective. Ultimately, I ended up taking job #2, and as soon as I made the decision a huge weight was lifted, and it feels like the right move in my gut. I handled my departure as professionally as I could. When I told my manager at job #1 that I was leaving...

I need some job/career advice - thanks in advance

I have found job #1 to be good, but not great, although part of it is possibly looking for negatives knowing that I may have something to compare it to. I talked to some former employees who worked in this department before at job #1 (they left for various reasons over the years) and they raised...

I need some job/career advice - thanks in advance

It's been a while since I posted, but I read often. Here is my scenario - I really appreciate any advice you have. I was laid off from my job effective mid-May as they got rid of our entire department at my company. I was very aggressive in my job search and was fortunate to have a couple of...

What is an ideal debt to income ratio? And savings to income?

I feel like I've read a couple of articles (I believe in the weekend WSJ) where there was a chart of recommended debt to income ratios as well as a recommended savings to income ratio based on different age brackets. Does anyone have any numbers they'd recommend for these two? What is the ideal...

Should my parents get an annuity as advised?

Thanks all I appreciate everyone who provided a response - your feedback was VERY helpful. I am happy to report that my parents are not going to put this money into an annuity and when they told the advisor that she said that this was a well thought out decision and moved on...she didn't push...

Should my parents get an annuity as advised?

Thanks 73 and haha, I appreciate your responses. I haven't had a reason to read any of the other annuity threads in the past (at 30, this isn't an option, obviously) but I I'll scour through the search tool. I have read Boggleheads' book and will dig it up this weekend as a refresher.

Should my parents get an annuity as advised?

I appreciate the feedback, but any more detail you can give? Is there ever a situation where an annuity makes sense? Should we go with a balanced portfolio of mutual funds? Thanks for any depth you can give to why its not a good idea.

Should my parents get an annuity as advised?

First of all, this is my first time posting, although I've been actively reading this site for a good 2-3 years. Thanks to all of you who provide such great analysis and posts. While I've been a "silent participant," its great having a forum such as this to enjoy a shared passion of living...
