    33 y/o, $235K income, $460K NW -- no mortgage, what's next?

When I'm stuck on things I read books. Since posting this I was reminded of a few things like how important it is to be on the other side of the tax fence. I finally started using a CPA and have saved thousands since making that choice. I am considering a financial advisor however I drank the...

    33 y/o, $235K income, $460K NW -- no mortgage, what's next?

Just called Vanguard and they can do everything that my FA friend can do. I didn't realize they would look at outside investments and assets taking them into consideration. I'm taking that route. Thanks so much everyone! I'll check out the links too.

I agree with you. I can get a "financial plan" from Vanguard for $250. This would be flat fee and not necessarily "portfolio management". Perhaps that is my best bet if I choose not to be full blown CFP'ed?

    33 y/o, $235K income, $460K NW -- no mortgage, what's next?

Thanks! I actually have a friend in mind but have put him off for years since it was simple while attacking the mortgage with non retirement $. Now I don't have anything to attack. It's mind numbing to compare the cost of Vanguard to a managed wrap account and loaded fund. I guess there are...

    33 y/o, $235K income, $460K NW -- no mortgage, what's next?

Thanks... I wish there was a simple mutual fund I could buy into to do the tax efficiency for me. I'm not fit for making those kinds of decisions and setups.

Yikes. :) I appreciate the advice, really very much but I'm thinking I should start thinking Financial Advisor as much as I've feared them. I drank the index/Bogle kool aid but I think my situation is much more complicated now than it used to be. I'm worried I will make a wrong decision.

    33 y/o, $235K income, $460K NW -- no mortgage, what's next?

Can the Target retirement funds be purchased in non retirement accounts? I'm hoping to find a target or lifecycle fund for the cash side. Think I should go to a Financial Advisor for the non retirement side for a while until I get a plan together? I also have the opt of paying Vanguard $250 for...

    33 y/o, $235K income, $460K NW -- no mortgage, what's next?

Yeah I have the kid college covered. I didn't included that since it's not really an expense. I'm thinking short term with all of this. I just need to get on track and put the income in the right place. :) I work in the info tech field. Is there a simple Vanguard target fund that I could jump...

    33 y/o, $235K income, $460K NW -- no mortgage, what's next?

Thanks, we do live simple. No debt or mortgage really got our expenses down. We like it that way. I am hanging on to the job since I feel that I can take that income and build other income through investing. What do doctors do with their extra cash? By the way health insurance is provided...

    33 y/o, $235K income, $460K NW -- no mortgage, what's next?

By passive income I mean basically getting actual cash (if I want it) from investments or I could simply re-invest. Basically building another paycheck if that makes sense. Thanks for the dividend idea. Which vanguard fund should I go for? Looking for something that can be automated. Thanks!

    33 y/o, $235K income, $460K NW -- no mortgage, what's next?

Hello! I am in Target Retirement 2030 for retirement but looking to grow the non-retirement side. Hopefully in 5-7 years or so have a stream of income. I like the idea of all-in-one funds since I don't want to spend much time at all. Any idea what fund to use since it's not retirement?

    Financial Advisors - Ever Justified?

I probably could if I wanted to dig further but I have always had the impression that it is unwise to try to time the market by any means. I'm no expert though, I like things to be ultra simple. After seeing the comments in this thread it seems that it's not too crazy to just try to keep course...

    Financial Advisors - Ever Justified?

Thank you for your feedback! I have everything set up financially such as life insurance, good amounts going to kids college, etc. I really like how Vanguard guides you in certain areas. I don't want to spend any time monitoring or messing around with the funds, etc. and that's why I chose the...

    Financial Advisors - Ever Justified?

I cut my ties with my financial advisor a year or so back. I had another friend really really want my business. Of course, eh? So like a lot of people my portfolio took a dive. I'm only 33 but there's about $350K in there. It's going to be a while before I retire I suppose so when it takes a...

    CPA Billing Question

Thanks for reading my question. About me: full time employee with side business. About a year and half ago I met with a CPA that I thought I was going to do business with. On the phone he said our initial consultation was free. When I met with him I decided to use his services and he said in...

    Portfolio Advice

I came to the realization today as well that the Target fund is the best option for me. I did however change from the Target 2030 to the Target 2035 since I will be 60 years old at 2035. This in effect moves my bonds from 17% down to 10%. I seemed to think 20% bonds would be best for me. I...

    Portfolio Advice

Would the Target Funds have covered these areas? I am finding it pretty difficult to pick the right Asset Allocation. I like the age based bond ratio. I am tempted to stay with the Target fund at Vanguard and raise my bonds in my 401(k) account to balance things out. Would that be a sensible...

    Portfolio Advice

Hello everyone. I have done a lot of research and read some of Bogle's books as well as other recommended books from this forum. Your advice has been highly valued and I thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Bogle mentioned that bonds should equal a person's age. I am 32 and...

    Vanguard Target Funds

The Asset Allocation Tutoral is great. Thanks for the link! I couldn't figure out how to get my Prudential accounts into the x-ray but I did a quick peak in Quicken and it gave me a rough idea. I don't think it is as accurate as the x-ray so I will try to figure that out later. I look forward...

    Vanguard Target Funds

Right now I'm not armed with enough knowledge to know what asset allocation I want. I am learning though. It sounds like the Target 2035 would have a good general asset allocation. Thanks.

    Vanguard Target Funds

I hope to retire earlier than 60 as well if possible. I have some other businesses that are doing well and I have been investing $5000-5500 a month so hopefully it will pay off.

    Vanguard Target Funds

Thank you. I will consider Target 2035 or Target 2040. As far as 401(k) -- I am learning as much as I can and will dive into it next. It is currently on an age based system with Prudential and supposedly allocated well. My wife has a 403(b) account with Prudential which is also age based. Some...

    Vanguard Target Funds

Vanguard On another note, I couldn't be happier with Vanguard. Before Vanguard I was with a large financial advisor firm. It is very nice knowing exactly what I am paying for now and their online resources are great.
