    2023 workout thread

That's what got me to join a gym several months ago. Self diagnosis, but it seems correct. Between stretching (not a lot) and the weights it's almost gone.

    Blow that Dough 2023

2 new sofa's. Probably around $9K. The old one was way too low...of course, now the new one is too high:facepalm:. The cushions are already starting to settle a bit, so hopefully in another month or so they will be ok. Needed a nice high back as well, nobody seems to like selling high backed sofa's.

Anyone Else Soured on Dining Out?

If I could get that meal here, I'd eat there once a week.

Anyone Else Soured on Dining Out?

We've pretty well given up on eating out, although we never did it much anyway. We have been getting looser with our money and ordering out to be delivered....but that's maybe every couple of weeks. For the two of us, it's usually about $40 or so which we can live with (curry). Anytime I'm near...

    Expat Corner (part 2)

Oh come on!! It's not like they speak jibberish around here;). Although when I moved back to this area in 2004 for work, I spent 3 years (before getting married) out away from civilization and lived near a couple of old farmers who still had the old heavy Yorkshire accent that was almost...

    Expat Corner (part 2)

Boy, it's been a long time since I logged in. Just coming up on 8 years back in the UK. Finances are fine. Playing lots of golf and just making an attempt at playing tennis again for the first time in 35? years. Need to get myself motivated to start the citizenship paperwork. In another 2...

    Golf Game Needs Help

If I'd only known....I was in my 60's before I took a lesson. Didn't do anything at all for me. I'm better. So......count me better?

Best Places to Retire in Each State

The rain is really messing up the golf......who cares about James Herriot!!!(although the new series is pretty decent). Coming from SW Washington I'm used to the rain.....but jeez.....we could use a break.

Best Places to Retire in Each State

I spent 5 years in Okinawa Japan, plenty of typhoons....I liked them. But they build things strong on Okinawa....not much even blows down during the storms and the locals just ignore the storm until it's at it's worst. The weather was mild to hot pretty well all the time. The first year was...

Best Places to Retire in Each State

A place like San Diego would bore me to death with the weather. I need some weather, unfortunately we are getting way too much rain again this year. I'm afraid it might be the new normal......

Recumbent bikes and lower back problems

Oh yesssssss.....high-end trike.....depends on where you are riding of course.

Recumbent bikes and lower back problems

Ex-recumbent rider....same bike indoors and out (Bacchetta Giro). Sudden problems out of nowhere killed off regular bikes (neck, saddle sores, hand numbness). Out of biking now because of too many close calls, but if I returned to biking it would be on a recumbent. Technically, I think there...

    Walking for weight loss?

Ex runner, competitive into my late 30's. When in shape I was about 135-137 lbs. I'm now 175 (63 yrs). Even back then I had to work at not eating much. I walk about 8 miles a day now in "some" form. Yesterday it was golf (5 miles) in the morning and then 30 minutes uphill on the treadmill later...

    Expat Corner

Moved for good back to UK/N Yorkshire 5+ years ago (retired 2011). Total of about 19 years in the UK (10 Germany, 5 Okinawa). Went back to the Spokane area for 4 years when I retired.....like it better here (weather better in E Washington, well....actually almost anywhere). Not planning on...

    Where to relocate ???

I quite like the desert....Moses Lake is just toooo flat. My wife (Brit) liked winters in E Washington. Well below freezing with no wind beats cold/windy/wet weather most of the time. Lived in Nine Mile/Suncrest with a nice view over the river/lake. Now I look at our neighbour. No golf for at...

    Where to relocate ???

If I had to move back to WA, it wouldn't be Moses Lake. When I retired we spent 4 years NWest of Spokane which wasn't bad. I grew up in SW WA in the rain. College in E-burg (too damn windy, but a nice town). The Olympic P area would get my attention now, or even Walla Walla. The Tri-cities would...

What do you do/take for hand arthritis?

Here is another hit or miss idea. I have a cousin who is into alternative treatments and she recommended drinking vinegar, the "mothers" version. My wife was having quite a bit of trouble with her hands and I told her to give it a try.....at least it's cheap. It takes a couple of weeks to kick...

    Expat experiences in the UK?

I'm assuming if your daughter has been taken in to a school......ACS or ASL? Both were considered pretty good back in the 80's when I dealt with them quite a bit. ACS (Hillingdon or Cobham) was more out from London central......where I would rather be. ASL was more of a "down town" (if you can...

    Golf Talk Tuesdays 2015-2020

Just ordered a Srixon u85 2 iron. No way to test it ahead of time....just hoping it's what I want. Wish I could order a younger body.....

    Golf Talk Tuesdays 2015-2020

Anybody here tried the Srixon u85 utility iron? I wouldn't mind replacing my low hybrid with an 18 degree u85. Seems like I would get about the same distance but hit it straighter.

    Golf Talk Tuesdays 2015-2020

Driving to Snainton (UK) to try out the new Ping Sigma 2 putters tomorrow. Also hoping to buy a pair of Ecco shoes if they prove to be comfortable enough. I think I might even buy a box of Wilson DX3 balls for cold weather....started playing the Callaway supersoft with the cooler weather.
