    Buying website as an investment

If smaller means niche, it seems like it would be easier to start by breaking into more numerous smaller markets before going after a large one with a big site.

Impact of Fish Oil supplements on Blood Sugar

well there weren't many replies when I last checked... @haha you're probably right. When I saw this thread I honestly pulled out the last place I heard about "fish oil". Yes clearly none of these paleo dieters realize this life expectancy, and certainly the diet implies causation here.

    Buying website as an investment

tax deductible as business expense? Without a ton of experience here, I can make some suggestions where you might look to find the answer: SitePoint.com, DigitalPoint.com, and WebmasterWorld.com. You could try shopping around as if you were going to buy a website, and if you ask enough of the...

    Buying website as an investment

I think that's where I was initially, maybe because the sites make heavy use of "tags" as a part of the sites feature of linking site content together. I think trust was huge because recently after having some sites link to mine and over time, the visitor count has picked up some.

more debt: is a Master's worth it?

Found this link also. It's very relevant. The Joel on Software Discussion Group - Is an MSCIS degree worth it? When I mentioned that a master's was an aspiration of mine, he mentioned that our megacorp reimburses for that, so I took that as an OK. Asking for more projects sounds good. My only...

more debt: is a Master's worth it?

Well it's contingent upon my immediate supervisor's approval. I'm almost certain that my immediate mgr has his position from his experience (10 or so yrs) in this same "department" if you will. I don't think the Master's was a prereq. Why he decided to get it? I haven't asked. On what the...

more debt: is a Master's worth it?

I can agree with this; in my case I'm substituting experience with education, only in the same field. I'd consider using the degree to open doors to a new field. except I'd have to talk my manager into letting me do so. That's correct. More appealing resume? I've been conditioned by society to...

more debt: is a Master's worth it?

They might, but it's not written anywhere. My team's lead developer has a Master's. I'd like to be the one they can ask to solve the really hard problems. These are usually Sr.-level positions as far as I can tell, and yrs. of experience is the top requirement. Which I do not have, so I have to...

more debt: is a Master's worth it?

I'm about to take on a mortgage and wonder if adding more debt for a master's will pay off. Found this article: What Is a Master’s Degree Worth? - Room for Debate Blog - NYTimes.com Just getting out of my undergrad debt, the thought of going back for more makes me a bit uneasy. Right now...

    Buying website as an investment

The types of sites I build are "mashups" - build something useful with existing APIs. All my domains were built starting June 2009, if time matters. It's funny, sometimes I'll get the site to the first page, but the next day the site is never seen from again. All content is auto-generated, so...

    Buying website as an investment

I'm bewildered at how others seem to generate positive cash flow from this. I haven't even broke even yet. And I know how to code! Is the secret to buy lots of domains, build them all up, and hope you get some winners? It's fun, but I'm thinking I'd get more return ($) for my time if I...

harley I know of the crime in Manassas as well and know a rough scene when I see one. It happens to be one of the few affordable communities near work, however, so I'm still going to look. A home still looks to me like a sound investment at this time since it's a buyers' market, the rates are...

    "developers, developers, developers..."

I may change my mind, but here is why. I'm more confident my skills are in front of a machine than in the boardroom or small-talking with other upper-management types. Moving up to lead developer is fine, but past that and I'll probably be sitting in meetings all day, talking up to personalities...

me too Me too. Right before I finished my summer internship in their information & biostatistics department, for $500 I volunteered for one of their studies. Had something to do with body fat distribution in males vs. females. To everyone here who knows who Taubes is, there's this blog I...

Yes, if you're willing to commute or buy foreclosures. Have a look for yourself. Fortunately I don't work directly within D.C., but in the outlying suburb/office parks. Since I never directly ask anyone what they make, I base my judgment on the salary statistics I find i.e. bls.gov or...
