    2022 Tax Program Deals

I need to use TurboTax Deluxe with State efile. If I use the Fidelity or T Rowe Price discount, I believe the cost would be $68 ($29 for Deluxe + $39 for State with e-file). Does that sound right? It looks like Amazon's price for TurboTax Deluxe is $44.99 and I believe the TurboTax state...

    2022 Year-End Distributions

I am trying to estimate my dividends and capital gains for 2022. I looked at the current CG Distribution status of VIMAX, a Vanguard fund. I went to the fund's profile page and scrolled down to distributions. The realized gain, as of 9/30/22, is -$25.92. Does this mean that I will have $25.92...

Cap gain distributions and divs from mutual funds during recessions and bear markets

Thank you TheWizard. The majority of my mutual funds, in taxable/tax free/ tax deferred accounts, are index mutual funds. I learned the value of index funds pretty early on, here at early-retirement.org But I still get capital gains distributions from these funds.

Cap gain distributions and divs from mutual funds during recessions and bear markets

Hello Audreyh1. I have access to Morningstar. I checked their reports but unfortunately it does not look like they show an unrealized capital gain metric in their reports anymore. Thank you for the idea though.

Cap gain distributions and divs from mutual funds during recessions and bear markets

Oh wait. I am not old enough to qualify for the 55 rule. I had looked at the 72t election when I first retired.

Cap gain distributions and divs from mutual funds during recessions and bear markets

Hmmm. I will have to look further into using the 55 rule. I looked at it when I first FIREd but it was not a good idea for me at that time. Maybe it would be a good idea 8 years after retiring.

Cap gain distributions and divs from mutual funds during recessions and bear markets

Hi. This is all helpful information. I appreciate it. I suspect many of us, who are FIREd, but too young for a pension payment or social security, etc., are concerned about the possible amount that we will receive in the next couple of years from the capital gain distribution and dividends from...

Cap gain distributions and divs from mutual funds during recessions and bear markets

Hello all. I am FIREd since 2014. The capital gain distributions from taxable mutual funds and dividends from my taxable mutual funds make up about one half of my annual expenses. This money does not get reinvested, instead it goes straight to my checking account. As I understand, we are in a...

    Car problems

I was thinking about getting my 2007 Honda Accord v6 with about 185,000 miles painted too. The clear coat is has dulled in sections. I got multipe estimates. The lowest was about 1,900 and the highest was over 2,500. I decided to leave it alone, it seemed like too much money to put into the car...

    2022 Investment Performance Thread

I am down 13.7 percent from January 2022. Is anyone else now below what their investment portfolio value was in February 2020, right before covid? When I did my monthly investment portfolio today, and saw that my value today is the lowest it has been since the start of 2022 and lower than what...

Best Way to Establish a Bond Ladder

Hi. Thank you for the help. I have a Fidelity Visa and Cash Management account. So I was able to use Fidelity bond ladder tool. That helped me, it gives suggestions for the investment to put in the rungs of the ladder. It lets you choose how many rungs you want within the ladder, the credit...

Best Way to Establish a Bond Ladder

Hi. I'm reading The Bond Book by Annette Thau. I am thinking about setting up a bond ladder. Thau recommends purchasing 1 year, 3 year and 5 year bonds in the first year and then replacing these bonds as they mature. What is the best way to purchase these types of bonds? I have Vanguard, T Rowe...

Firecalc Equity and Fixed Income Percentage Recommendation

Yes, based on average life expectancy, my remaining early retirement would be about 25 years. If I live a long time, it could be about 45 years. Do you think 60 percent equity allocation is an appropriate amount based on those lengths of early retirement?

Firecalc Equity and Fixed Income Percentage Recommendation

I occcassionally revisit Firecalc to reassess my early retirement plan. I have thus far maintained a 60 percent stock 40 percent bond investment allocation, or at least that is the general goal. I noticed a statement in Firecalc that is different from what I remember being there. Here is the...

My Lessons Learned and why everyone should build a custom model with Excel

Hi Romer and Montecfo. I know the basics of how to use Excel, but I am not an expert user. Can you tell me what variables you use in your columns and rows, and the appropriate equations, for the Excel spreadsheets that make up your custom models? Thanks.

What Tax Filing Software to use for Roth Conversion Estimates?

Hi. I watched an informational video recently about Roth conversions. A suggestion was made to use tax preparation software to test the tax liability outcomes connected to particular roth conversion amounts. I use the free file version of TurboTax because my income is low enough to qualify for...

My mortgage and HELOC is with PenFed Credit Union. My HELOC is currently at an appoximate $30,000 limit, I wanted to increase that, I have a lot more equity in the house. Originally, I was told that PenFed could do a drive by appraisal, with no cost to me, as part of the application to increase...

    Rebalancing My Bond Allocation

Hi. I need to rebalance my portfolio to bring it back to 60% stock 40% bond. I need to increase my bond allocation. Recession- Investment Portfolio Value

Hi. Can you tell me what PC means? And when you say ignore MSM, do you mean main stream media? I'm not sure how that pertains to my question. Did you say ignore MSM because MSM is predicting a long and deep bear market? I'm just trying to understand where you are coming from. Oh, and what does...
