Retired Federal Govt Workers - Medicare Question

Afternoon. I am a retired federal Dept of Army civilian since 2014. As I approach age 65, I will need to switch to Medicare as my primary insurance and then use one of our retirement plans as secondary insurance. I received a Medicare Card in the mail, it said to start 1 March 2023. My...

    Good brand of crock pot?

We have an IP and a Slow Cooker. Have not used the IP as a slow cooker. Interesting reviews on using an IP as a slow cooker. One word of advice. The Slow Cooker is our second one. The first one we used for over 25 years with no problem. But eventually had to replace. The one thing I...

    Charity after FIRE

So would this mean setting up a DAF with Vanguard now? How do we ensure ability to properly keep it funded? Was thinking using our Wellesley account and use it's account payback to keep the charity fund going.

    Charity after FIRE

this is for after we pass. I want to make things as easy as possible for my spouse and this would be one less item she needs to deal with. It's a children's cancer research center and we want to keep giving even after we pass.

    Charity after FIRE

Morning. We would like to set up contributions to our favorite charities to continue after we pass on. We have most of our investments (IRAs, investments) at Vanguard. Has anyone set up a continuing charity contribution fund with Vanguard and if so, how best to do it. Thanks

    Advising teenage daughter

A Roth IRA is a great asset building tool. Our kids have had Roth IRAs since their early teens, all funded from funds we gave to them (covered by their own income production), They are now in their 30s, with a real good financial base. Suggest doing a Vanguard long term no fee account and...

How I secured my kids' retirement.

This is a great financial lesson - thanks. We started our kid's Roth IRAs when they started baby sitting and snow shoveling and any other forms of business. We matched their Roth input and they saved that for college. Now in their 30s they will both be millionaires in a few years. Great...

Can we have a discussion on security cameras?

Wyze cameras. Bought one from HD, tested/tried it out, liked it, bought a few more. Bought their doorbell camera from their website. Have free 12 sec video clips stored for free in case needed. Cameras send me alerts as needed. I like them. Suggest hit HD, but one, check out capabilities.

Lowering Age for Medicare + Vision, Dental

While I am fiscally conservative, during my volunteer time I have seen how important Medicare is to our seniors. You would think that seeing clearly, hearing clearly, and good dental health would be part of the Medicare package. Quality of life should be maintained for seniors.

    Updating Will

Morning All - We are in the process of updating our wills. Basically we are pretty simple couple - 401ks, traditional and Roth IRAs, own home, no debt (maybe a car loan in the future). To save money looking to use Legalzoom.com. From what I can see for basic wills it is ok. One question I...

    Cheap, Cheap Hearing "Aids"

Have been a hearing aid wearer for 40 plus years. I say this whole heartedly - don't skimp on the cost. Somethings you get what you paid for, HAs are one. I have been very pleased with my Costco's KS9 - I think $1600 a pair. Digital, bluetooth. The staff is great. You can try and decide...

What brand multi-vitamin do you take?

I was a regular donor every 8 weeks for 40 years until I was deferred cause of low iron level. Dr put me on iron supplements for 3 months and all came back. But now I am reluctant about giving blood again. 40 years was a lot of pints. Maybe time to let others? or maybe give one more try...

    Auto Pay

I'm all for simplifying our finances. If I could I would put all credit cards and Verizon and Medicare on auto payments. DW does all the bill paying and is leery, loss of control she says. From what I see you have control by way of email notification of upcoming debits or charges. Was wondering...
