Your facilities charges are quite high. I just checked mine and for gas it is $10 per month and electricity is $14. $70 per month is insane.

    Amazon Prime Streaming with Commercials

+1 For the last 4 years I paid the Prime student discount of $69 because of my daughter going to school. It's now $139 per year and with commercials on Prime Video the value is no longer there. Will be cancelling. On my personal account it seems every 6 months they give me one month of Prime...

    Sleeping in…a retirement luxury

Without a doubt this is one of my favorite pleasures about being retired. My wife and I were just talking about this the other day. I absolutely hate having to set an alarm for anything. I love just getting up when I feel like it. And going to bed when I feel like it too.

I couldn't have been more wrong about my expectations on rates and inflation in the 4th quarter. I did pick up a bunch of those 5 year non-callable Wells Fargo cds at 5.05% in case I was wrong. Glad I at least did that. I even tiptoed into preferred stocks buying only $770 worth...

What is your pet peeve of the day? -- 2021

I lived in Dade County the first 30 years of my life. In my 20s in the 80s I had a 300zx Turbo. The cost of my insurance in Dade County at that time on one car was more than I am paying for 3 cars in NC in 2023. So yes, I was familiar with high insurance costs in FL. I can't even...

What is your pet peeve of the day? -- 2021

Time to vent. I live in NC and it is apparently the only state that charges a Clean Risk Recoupment Fee for automobile insurance. I just received my new automobile insurance quote. I now get charged $200.49 a year because we are all safe drivers and this fee helps insure high risk drivers. >:(...

I've got Covid.... The thread for your covid experiences

When I had it in early September 2023 my doctor would not provide Paxlovid either. I'm 63. I had a virtual visit on day 2 and she said she would call me daily to see how I'm doing and if I get worse she has up to day 5 to prescribe it. Her reasoning was that the current strain has shown to be...

OH those Treasury notes/bonds. Who's holding out?

$2,000,000,000,000 deficits for the foreseeable future will cause long term rates to rise and help keep inflation higher than normal. That is a tremendous amount of deficit spending. Nothing even remotely like this in the past with a now $33,000,000,000,000 bill due. I'm curious why you believe...

OH those Treasury notes/bonds. Who's holding out?

In reference to the 10 year dropping quickly this is perfectly normal and does not portend lower future rates. https://wolfstreet.com/2023/11/02/anything-unusual-in-the-drop-of-the-10-year-treasury-yield-despite-the-hype-hoopla-it-hasnt-done-anything-special/ In terms of closing yields (per...

    Fixed Income Investing II

The market thought the top was in June 22, then top in October 22, top in February 23 and now top in October 23. Eventually it will be right. If the CPI & PCE come in at or below expectations in the next 3 months I may start believing that was the top. Definitely not until then.
