Has anybody else noticed that the two NASA astronauts about to launch in the new Starliner are 58 and 61? Obviuosly, they are fit.

Best CD, MM Rates & Bank Special Deals Thread 2024 - Please post updates here

No doubt the bankers are quaking in their boots at the thought that more and more of us are wise to the ways of getting more interest at no additional risk. The poor devils. I did pick up a 2 year 5% CD, call protected. While I don't see a plunge in interest rates and/or inflation, we...

Best CD, MM Rates & Bank Special Deals Thread 2024 - Please post updates here

I just got an email notifying me that the bank has reduced the interest rate on my $5.28 account to 4.1% I can get over 5% at Vanguard, Fidelity and Schwab on government MM funds. Perhaps I should send them an email telling them I will be lowering the amount in my account to $5.00. Maybe...

Buffett Invests in T-bills instead of Stocks, Waits for Bad Stuff to Happen..loves 5% - all said at the annual meeting.

Not quite everyone else. IIRC, a number of people at this site did some thoughtful buying when the market was down nearly 20%. Buy low, sell high does require some courage when we wander into lower territory. But, it seems to work. :)

Activity might be the most important thing.

It is possible to exercise too much, especially as we age and our bodies need more time to recover. I try to listen to my body. It’s pretty good at telling me when I need to move more, and when a day at the beach is a better choice.

Examples of current inflation - add yours!

Netflix is putting its lowest priced no-commercials service on the chopping block in some countries. If and when it happens in the USA I can look forward to either commercials or paying another $4 a month.

Not much point in Roth conversions?

I did Roth conversions here and there as they made sense. None were big due to a small pension, and being able to tap my former wife’s SS account from 66 to 70. But over time they add up. I suspect I will be able to avoid spending much time with Aunt IRMAA thanks to the conversions. RMDs will be...

    awash in space aliens

The movie was Queen of Outer Space, IIRC. Zsa Zsa and her followers help the earthmen to save the Earth. However, due to problems they end up stuck on Venus for a year with a bunch of Venusian women starved for male companionship. I hope they got overtime and hazard pay. One thing I liked...

    awash in space aliens

I saw a movie years ago that showed us that Venus is populated by incredibly sexy women who lust after Earthmen. I think their Queen spoke with a Hungarian accent.

What is your pet peeve of the day? -- 2021

Today I twice waited at a red light while 90% of the time not a single car crossed in front of me during their green light. As no cars crossed the intersection, cars continued to line up behind me and the other cars directly across from me. A traffic circle would have let many cars cross the...

It sounds to me likenVanguard has identified their high cost costumers and I’d going to charge them more, while leaving their lower cost customers alone.

What If Fed Rate Hikes Are Actually Sparking US Economic Boom?

FWIW, a home near me sold for 15% above asking in a matter of a few days. It’s the first house of its type to go on the market in nearly a year.

I was confused driving in Italy a few years ago. I made about six trips round the the traffic circle until my partner figured out which direction we had to take. EZPZ.

Restaurant adding fee for use of credit card

+1 When I worked in retail we had periodic cash pickups just in case a register was robbed (by employees or outsiders). It required two people to count the cash and sifpgn off on the amount removed, a store security person to pick it up, and, of course, storage in a secure area of the store...

Restaurant adding fee for use of credit card

I’ve heard that variable CC fees are on the way. If you use a premium, high cost to the store owner CC, you might pay a higher fee. Supposedly Australia already does this.

What If Fed Rate Hikes Are Actually Sparking US Economic Boom?

Im not sure low mortgage rates are that great. IMO, they did a lot to drive up home prices. They also fueled the demand for homes by making purchases of homes for use as Airbnb short term rentals more economically favorable.

What If Fed Rate Hikes Are Actually Sparking US Economic Boom?

My best fixed mortgage rate was 8 3/4%. The worst was 12 3/4%. My only variable rate was 1.6% above the one year T-bill rate. I kept my mouth shut and hung on to that rate as long as I could.

What is your pet peeve of the day? -- 2021

Traffic circles are being added in my area to many intersections that formerly were not busy but now carry a lot of traffic. The moaning and groaning over them is getting ridiculous. What do these people do when they drive in a region that makes abundant use of traffic circles? Never mind. The...
