dealing with others perceptions of ER

Thank you! I spent some time nursing in the prison system, lots of interesting stories indeed! (in fact still do some advocacy work on a volunteer basis)

dealing with others perceptions of ER

That's what it is for me too... I feel bad that others aren't as fortunate. I really think people work too long in this country. I think "regular" retirement age should be well before 65, unless somebody really wanted to keep working.

what did you do today? (2008-2015) (closed)

Yesterday we watched the movie "In Time" Very entertaining, I liked it! The concept of time as currency was very interesting. I've never seen Justin Timberlake in a movie.... not bad.

dealing with others perceptions of ER

Thanks to everyone who responded! I'm realizing my awkwardness when asked about work is just part of my own adjustment to not working anymore, and reinventing myself in ER. The reinventing hasn't really happened yet so I still see myself as "a nurse".... (I hope that makes sense) Something...

dealing with others perceptions of ER

DH and I have been ER for almost six weeks, I am 49 and DH is 50. We also moved to a new area so we have been out and about and trying to meet different people. We live in a condo so we are also meeting lots of neighbors. For some strange reason I feel awkward when people ask "What work do you...

    What is your workout

This has been a great thread. My workout routine for the last five weeks has been walking on the beach with my DH. We are up to four miles a day and do it just about every day. I'm amazed at how much of a workout we are getting just by walking on sand. I've definitely noticed an increase in...

    Other than money...

There were some aspects of my career (nursing) that were very rewarding for me, but I don't want to go back to all the negatives, and there were plenty of those too. So other than money, no- nothing I can think of that would make me want to have a BOSS again. If I want to get that satisfaction...

    Funding college for kids... ouch!

Her attitude definitely influenced things. She did not include my husband in any of the decision making process so the subject came up after she was accepted to the private school. They are pretty much estranged at this point and that is the reason she doesn't know we would be willing to help...

    Funding college for kids... ouch!

This is an interesting topic. How many here would put off FIRE in order to pay for their children's college tuition? In our case we opted not to fund college for my husbands daughter from his first marriage because she down right expected a blank check to use at a very expensive private...

When does the giddy wear off?

I know how you feel, DH and I are about five weeks in and I too feel like I am on a permanent vacation..... isn't it awesome?! ;D We moved when we retired to a place where we did vacation, so I remember well the times when we would be here for a week and I would start to get tense and depressed...

Happy to be retired at 49

Hello everyone :) Just want to introduce myself and say I am happy to have found this forum. My DH is 50 and I am 49. Last December (the 19th to be exact) we officially left the rat race behind and moved to our dream destination in sunny Florida. Prior I worked as a nurse and DH was running...
