    CLASS OF 2027 to 2037

Looking at 2028-2030 depending on when I retire from the Army. Have the majority of investment in an income property that my husband inherited, no mortgage, monthly rent. Usually max out my Roth TSP, but this year is a PCS year, so started cutting back on retirement to build a nice moving fund...

    Dropped Cable TV Today

My hubby and I have not had cable in over 10 years! Best decision we ever made. You can get so much done instead of wasting hours on TV. We do have Netflix and Amazon Prime, but this just makes us more selective in what we watch, rather than just watching whatever is on. It is, however, hard to...

How did you decide/plan to ER?

My husband is a type 1 diabetic, so has a shorter lifespan, with potentially physically limiting complications. This is motivating us to retire as soon as possible so we have as many good retirement years as possible. This is also a major reason that I am going to stay in the Army until...

    What's your brush with fame?

Years ago my dad and I met William Shatner while we were riding horses at the LA Equestrian Center. Apparantly he keeps his horses there and we road past him along one of the trails. Shook our hands and was very friendly.

How much notice did you (should I) give?

My mom just gave a 1 week notice. After 20 years they still would have only given her a day notice if they were to fire her, so she felt no obligation. I guess it depends on your relationship with your employers.

    Geographically accurate BBQ map

Now to add more fuel to the fire! What about Santa Maria tri-tip from California? It's the end they chop off the briskit, and usually a cheaper cut. My husband has perfected his smoking technique, delicious! What can I say? I'm a west coast girl. We are looking forward to sampling the Kansas...

    PCS to Fort Leavenworth KS

Thanks for the replies so far. We are hoping to live as close to base as possible (if we don't get on-base housing). We don't have kids so schools are not an issue. I would love to live as close to base as possible so I could ride my bike to work (which is what I am fortunate enough to do now)...

Staying Happy during the Long Slog to ER

Careful, you don't want to be a skinny fat person. Just because your metabolism is high dosen't mean that you are not at risk of high cholesterol, high blood pressure and other diseases, if all you eat is Big Macs. Eating healthy and exercising is so much more important to your overall health...

    PCS to Fort Leavenworth KS

My Hubby and I will be PCSing ("moving" for you non-military folk!) to Fort Leavenworth KS at the end of July. Anyone have any experience with the area? We are west-coast natives who have been living in Puerto Rico the past three years, so this part of the world is completely foreign to us! (Oh...

Still have not put my money in the market. Advice?

I agree with dollar cost averaging, having your money sit and get eaten away by inflation is just crazy. Your money needs to work for you! Besides, the DJIA is a poor way to judge the entire market.

    Most Unusual/Fun J*b

I was assigned to the Military's Arctic Care Mission for two weeks in Alaska. This mission combined MD's, dentists, opthalmologists and veterinarians to visit the remove Native Alaskan Villages. It was during the month of March, 40*F below zero! We got to ride in the Blackhawks to the villages...

19 years old, just getting started

Hello! You are obviously way ahead of the curve when it comes to your finances. I would however consider finishing your college degree. Unfortunately in the world we live in today, you will top out pretty quickly when it comes to salary with no degree. Employers often can't quantify "experience"...

    Women are better off bra-less

Am I the only one who has seen the pics of 25 year old African tribe women with their boobs down to their bellybuttons? No bra, less sagging my a**! Maybe those with A cups have no problems, but those of us with more ample bosoms need some support.

At wits end with my dog.

Time for the veterinarian to put in her two cents! A 15 year old dog with sudden loss of house training could be a number of things. Often it is due to an increase in water consumption due to diseases such as kidney failure, liver failure, diabetes, thyroid disease, Cushings disease, bladder...

    Share your FIRE Milestones - 2013- 2020

This is kind of a funny milestone, but we finally reached a net worth of $0! Which is good considering it used to be -$150,000 (student loans). With the Army loan repayment program, and my husband and I getting Gazelle intense on the last of our debt, and finally putting money aside for...

I am lucky here in Puerto Rico, I can ride my bike to work every day of the year! Been the best three years of commuting ever! We are PCSing to Ft. Leavenworth, KS this summer, which will reduce my biking to good weather months only. Hopefully we will find a place close to work. I love not...

so easy to Live Above Your Means

I have gone the complete opposite on some things. We thought we could never live without Cable, then 9 years ago I started vetschool and could not afford it. Have not looked back since! I don't miss it at all and every time I travel where there is cable I am reminded of how much of a useless...
