    Facebook IPO

Even at $20 a share, FaceBook is still standing at a $43B market cap; while in comparison, Ford Motor Company’s market cap is $37B and CSX’s market cap is $24B. How easy will FaceBook be to copy in the near future (with very little start-up capital)? > Look at MySpace-anyone remember those guys?

Larry Ellison's latest purchase: the island of Lanai

Opps, just caught that. Meant to type 3.4K, but even that was high for it being 1,900 now. Thanks for the great info and history lesson! This will be interesting to see how this plays out. Do you think Larry Ellison is doing this for an investment or ego trip?

Larry Ellison's latest purchase: the island of Lanai

How is that possible? Word is he bought 98% of the Island, but there are 34K people living on that island.

    Day Trading Article

“It's because, after an hour, the pounding stops. All the real action is in the first hour of trading, and the last half hour. In between, guys go to the gym, get lunch, surf the Web, throw around a Nerf football, or just go home and skip the last half hour of trading. But that first hour is...

I had the same problem in my 84 Dodge Aries station wagon. We used to stuff dirty socks under the boards to prevent banging on the roof of the car. I lost so many good socks on the highway!

    "Toning Shoes" Lawsuit

Like any other miracle diet or "lose weight fast" program. It's amazing, we get so infatuated by easy little tricks, but getting into shape actually takes a little hard work. Who would have thought? I'm still trying to figure out what Kim Kardashian has done to benefit society!

Oh OK, I see what you're saying. Hope you can get them to fix your bonds.

problems with I-Bonds purchased through IRS Tax Return

Are you talking about I Series Savings Bonds? I am seeing a 0% fixed rate for Nov11-May12 and a 0% for May12-Nov-12. I see the inflation rate at 1.10% and 1.53% respectively. Are you talking about TIPS sold at auction?

Has anyone started using the ROTH option in their TSP? I'd like to switch my allocation but cannot find the option on the TSP website. Anyone know where it is? (I tried DFAS MyPay as well).

Were the rates that high on I bonds? Are these a special offer at tax time?

Down >6% already. Will look really tempting at <$30. Not sure if it will go that low, but let's see what unfolds from this.

    Soldier intro...

That’s a dangerous thought process; especially in today’s military. We are out of Iraq and we are drawing down heavily in Afghanistan. When I enlisted, my rating was the “hot” career path; guys making E8 and E9 in 16 years, huge reenlistment bonuses, etc… By the time I went up for E7, we were at...

    Soldier intro...

Welcome. If you like the idea of buying into blue chips and your knowledge is low on stocks, I would recommend buying into a large cap mutual fund and set it up with auto payments so that $$$ goes out of your bank without you having to physically transfer it. A few good funds: USAA USAA S&P...

    Dividend etf

The VYM is a good fund (solid portfolio w/ good yield). If you're looking to add some diversification, I would look into the PIMCO High Income Fund (PHK); it's a closed-end fund that is currently yielding 11.40% @ $12.83. The NAV to Mkt price premium is pretty high though (NAV $9.25). Check out...

Sell in May and Go Away?

  20. S

I think I'm close, what do you think?

It could; however, it seems that the piece of paper, a.k.a "degree", is more important than anything you learn anyway  Being away on your own is optimal, but if you're trying to scrape your dough........

    Ten yrs and done??

To add in on pb4uski's list, does the $2k take into account property taxes? Mine will continue to haunt me well after I pay off my mortgage up until the day I die or get locked away in a nursing home!

I think I'm close, what do you think?

I've been thinking about your question #3 before my son was born. He is only 17 months now, but I'd like to plan as early as possible; I know how tough it is to work and pay your own way through college and I'd like to afford my kids the opportunity to go get an education without stressing if...

Sell in May and Go Away?

There’s a book/journal called the “Stock Trader’s Almanac”. I picked up a copy this year. It has all the statistics regarding the “best” months for being in and out of the market for the DJIA, S&P 500, and NASDAQ. It also goes into the $10K model about getting out in May and getting back in...
