    Weird Stuff From The Workplace

Another blinds story from the workplace... I was hired to work as secretary in a very small office. I had one window and arranged my work area so I was facing it and could enjoy what limited view there was. The other woman in the adjoining office saw I had RAISED THE BLINDS! No, no, no! Anyone...

    Christmas Present

I asked DH what his best Christmas gift was. He said a one speed bicycle. It was used ($15.00) and he had to pay for half of it. I'm sure it was a struggle for his preacher dad to come up with his $7.50.

    Christmas Present

Betsy Wetsy Doll. I still have her. She has a wig now and a different dress. Too many mud puddle "baths" I guess.

Do women initiate divorce more than men?

I think women have such a romanticized view of men and marriage, the first married year is a real shock. They think they married the wrong man, but in reality, they believed movies and books. I think men also have unrealistic views of marriage, but not as much as women. I agree men will remarry...

Did You Have Health Insurance Prior to Signing Up With an Exchange?

We have insurance we pay for ourselves. Our policy is one that will be cancelled because it doesn't comply with ACA . Unless we are very, very careful, and keep our income low, our ACA policy will not qualify for subsidy which means we will not be able to afford coverage. [mod edit]

I’ll be home for Christmas – Will you?

This will be our first Christmas in our winter home....Florida. I keep forgetting its Christmas time now that we are surrounded by Palm trees and warmth. It's a hard job, but someone has to do it. DH parents live here, so we will celebrate with them.

Groceries....Buy when needed or stock up?

    The best way for me to comment on OPs question to recall a recent reaction from a houseguest from Taiwan. Upon opening the double doors to our food pantry, her spontaneous comment was one word...."WOW!". Same reaction when she looked in our upright freezer. :-}

Visiting my sister and we made freezer meals. Parmesan Garlic Chicken, Sloppy Joes, Finger Lickin Good Ribs, Bacon and Ranch Chicken, Melt In Your Mputh Potroasr, and Montery Jack Chicken. Good Question: Can the US Support 75M Retirees?

What a great article. This is very much like trailer park we "snowbird" at. Everyone knows everyone and has a pretty good idea of another persons daily habits...coming and goings. So much so, we make sure the office knows if we will be gone for a couple days. Don't want someone calling the...

Healthcare.gov -Anyone enrolled with subsidy yet?

I was to get a call from our insurance company to work with me on getting enrolled. No call, so I called them. The same cheerful guy I talked to the first time sounded a bit less cheerful this time. He said the ACA site is down and not working right, so he can't get on to verify any supplemental...

Others reactions to your Financial Independence

My family has the stance that money matters are private and it's extremely rude to actually ask someone how much they make/live on. Also bragging if you volunteer the info. I was shocked when DH and I were first married and FIL asked how much we made. Coming from two different family views, we...

what did you do today? (2008-2015) (closed)

Caught up on laundry. Vacuumed. Put an old computer together so I could download the latest OS and clear off any personal info. Called the office at our winter place in Florida to see if they would like a computer for the community room. They were delighted and already have the perfect spot for...
