Protein, muscle mass, falls and recovery.

Not sure why Chuckanut's post is no longer in this thread, but I just finished reading "The Big Fat Surprise" by Nina Teicholz. Fascinating look at why we eat what we do. Made me irate.

What Not to Prescribe to Older Adults

Congrats! I'm only on Flomax also, but I've got about a decade and a half to 80. I wonder if statins should be on the list. There's increasingly more evidence that higher cholesterol, specifically LDL, helps with longevity in seniors. That's if you believe LDL is bad in the first place.

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

I loved this. Stick with it through S1; S2 is even better IMO. Definitely not a reality cooking show, and I have an ever deeper appreciation for what it takes to run a restaurant after watching this.

    Fidelity/Vanguard fees and minimum invstment

Yep, me too. If it were a total of $100 I might not, but DW and I each have a tIRA and a Roth, a taxable account jointly held, DW's Inherited IRA, and a rollover tIRA from a former 401(k). That's $700.

    Is Egypt safe?

You might post your plans of where you'll be in Egypt, if you know them at this point. May make a difference. However if you are on an organized tour, I feel that you will be fine. ^This. A buddy of mine and I were in Egypt last October when Hamas attacked Gaza. We were there for scuba...

    Baseball 2024

And they let the beekeeper throw out the first pitch! Very cool. I can't determine which is more strange at Chase this year: the beehive or the rained-out exhibition game in a desert stadium with a retractable roof :).

    Vanguard, Fidelity or Schwab?

This probably deserves a separate post, but just yesterday Vanguard announced a $100 fee for transferring assets to another brokerage firm, unless you have $5M with VG. Check These Before You Transfer an Account From Vanguard

Thanks for your hard work. Yeah, it's a little different but nothing major.

    Additional medevac insurance

If you're outside of the country, no Medicare. Some supplements have a $50K lifetime maximum. In the US, that probably depends on whether you have Traditional Medicare or Advantage. I'd be curious to know.

The Eagles - Lip Syncing? Milli Vanilli redux?

Thanks for posting this, ERD50. I haven't watched the video but based on the integrity of the YT'er and your comments i gotta believe it's true. I'm as big an Eagles fan as the next guy but their blatant commercialism over the past few years has soured me. Too many Farewell Tours at $300-400...

New Weight Loss/Obesity Drugs Could Transform Economy

What dietary changes did you make? Simply eat/drink less or go to a specific new diet such as low carb, etc?

Update on Cord Cutting (Cable TV) - 2021 version

Yeah watching the local teams will require more $. If you have cable or satellite you'll need an RSN (Regional Sports Network). If you stream even the MLB package won't give you local teams; you'll need a local package for that. DirecTV Stream might be an option for you. It's the most...

Yeah but the gambling companies list help lines at the end of their ads! Agree about the irony, but another example of following the money to determine motive.

    Baseball 2024

I read that there were a number of games on which the translator bet against the Angels (or bet the over) and coincidentally Ohtani had a poor day at the mound and/or plate. I too hope Ohtani is a victim, but you never know.

Why are older Americans drinking so much

I tend to drink a little more than folks here, but am starting to not like it as much and beginning to cut back. There was a poll on ER recently about levels of alcohol consumption and I was shocked at how many folks either didn't drink at all or drank very little. Just another example of how...

    My Recent Calcium CT Scan

Interesting. Coincidentally looked at the nutrition label for a protein powder I have been using post-workouts for nearly 10 yrs (3-4x/week). I mix it with water, cinnamon, banana and spinach usually. It contains 1080 mg of calcium which is 80% of RDV. Not sure if that's contributing to my...

How To Find Low Cost Lab For Annual Blood Work?

Just completed a blood draw this morning at LabCorp, which partners with requesta test.com. Ordered the test online, walked into the lab at 7 am since it was a fasting panel, and was done by 7:20. Easy peasy. I could have made an appointment but the first one available was April 8th, almost...

New Weight Loss/Obesity Drugs Could Transform Economy

On Monday night, Oprah Winfrey hosted a one hour special about semaglutides on ABC. Although there was a small amount of time given to risks and side effects, it personally felt like an infomercial to me.

    My Recent Calcium CT Scan

Which is likely why insurance doesn't cover it, I would imagine. Well there goes my 15-hour brisket cooks! :) You're welcome. Ditto on the great information here and that it is now a priority for me also. DW would always say how healthy I ate and applaud me on my active lifestyle. I...

    My Recent Calcium CT Scan

That's great info, thanks. Did you make any dietary changes or was the LDL reduction solely due to the statins? I plan on also monitoring AST and ALT if I decide on statins (Rosuvastatin is what has been prescribed for me). But first I will get a lipid panel, liver levels, and A1C/Glucose test.

    My Recent Calcium CT Scan

"My LDL was around 110 before stents. The last couple years it's been between 35-40." How many years in between stents and now? How did you drive your LDL down from 110 to 35-40?
