How much money needed in cash and how to get it?

So just sell some of the stock (at a profit) you bought when you sold your cd’s, and put it back in cash. It’s called rebalancing

    Car plan in retirement

We have been retired for 6 years, still have the 2 cars we retired with: 2010 Lexus RX350 and a 2012 Audi A6. Have been considering our next car, but both of these are still running great. My last Audi maintenance was super expensive, probably would not buy another one now. I...

Hi. Pay down mortgage or invest in TODAY's market ?

I see it as a cash flow issue. If you can pay off the mortgage before you retire, you will have an extra (whatever your mortgage payment is) every month. We had 2 homes and sold one when we retired, paying off both mortgages. Very happy with this decision.

    Did you relocate after FIRE?

We bought a lake home in central VA several years before fire. At retirement we sold our town home in Alexandria, and were able to pay off both mortgages and move to the lake full time. Paradise, and a much lower cost of living!

Fat Fire-ees - are you out there?

Retired 4 years ago, with an anticipated burn rate of about $250K a year. Actual rate has been closer to $300k due to discretionary spending on vacations and house repairs. Due to bull market, net worth has gone up since retirement, so this rate is sustainable for us. Currently 63, DW is 61...

How do you plan your withdrawals?

We are on year 3 in this position. Fortunately I have a pension that provides about 1/3 of our monthly needs. We keep 2 years of expenses in a money market account with Discover bank that pays 1%. We transfer funds to our checking account quarterly. Watching our budget, we found that we are...

Your most pleasant surprise after retirement?

Happy that we are doing fine with money, spending a lot less than before retirement. Happy to have time to get involved with things I really want to do. Just finished playing Lazar Wolf in a local production of Fiddler on the roof! Time to travel - we spent 10 days in Paris this year! Time...
