    How many RVers here?

We have been a big road trip couple for many years and car campers since retirement (nearly 5 years). We have learned a lot about what works for us and what doesn’t. As such, we have a four season, four wheel drive class B on order now. It’s just the two of us so a class B will work fine. We...

You know you are FIREd when ?

It really does not matter what day it is. So many times I reach for my phone to tell me what day it is. Sent from my iPhone using Early Retirement Forum

    What's Your Top Retirement Insight

We tried not to take of anything new (community or volunteer commitments) the first year. The idea was to allow time for us to figure the whole ER out. We are just over a year. DH held to it well. He has just started exploring an opportunity with a small time commitment along with an educational...

Any other hard core ER skiiers out there?

Sorry for the delay in getting back...why, yes, I was skiing. Great stormy, powder day. Still snowing. Tomorrow, is another don't miss day. Our ski season is long-(early) November opening and normally go through Memorial Day. On big snow years, we are still skiing on Independence Day. Within...

Any other hard core ER skiiers out there?

OK this thread got my attention. I've been trying to get some thoughts down for an update of our first year of retirement. It has been an interesting one. I will save that for another day. If it's not obvious by my username, I am definitely a diehard skier. Last year's total days for skiing was...

    Pleasant Tax surprises this season?

I had the same thought about simplifying our investments. Waiting for K-1's means filing an extension. This is making me a bit nervous about IRA to Roth conversions and the ACA limits. Sent from my iPhone using Early Retirement Forum

    The Class of 2014

leisurely pace I completely understand your situation. Been busy at a leisurely pace, too. It is wonderful. I can't believe people would ever go back to a full time career. I am even mastering the "no, I don't have time for that." I am off to a good start. I can also say how happy I found this...

    The Class of 2014

We made it. I have to say, it has not been smooth. And, I am not talking about the market activity or my finals days at work. Since giving notice, two unfortunate things have happened. It has been an especially difficult time for me. As I have been working through these situations, I am thankful...

    Redefining ER "work" after intermission

I have been asked, "Since you are retired (will be), how about doing x? You would be excellent." I am interested because it is not even remotely close to what my megacorp work was and I have naturally all the skills needed. Plus the perks are pretty good. X is a job that now pays minimum wage...

    The Class of 2014

We (DH and me) are officially in single digits work days. Been interesting for DH. He gave about a month and a half notice so there would be preparations for his departure. However, his boss just let people know the end of last week. And, no plans are being made. While I know it is not his...

    Adjusting to ER

I am curious if this is the case with many people. I don't drink much. However, my DH drinks a LOT. I have hopes he will scale back. I have been warned that with more time, there may be more drinking. I know everyone is unique. I am interested in the groups' comments.

    The Class of 2014

After a good night's sleep, I decided to provide my boss with a revised letter including the date (and days worked up to the date), use of accrued leave, extension on benefits to match the time covered with available accrued leave and treatment of the final check in 2015 (contribution to...

    The Class of 2014

Okay, I am trying not to over react. Small organization. I am a peer (or higher) than the HR manager. She is less than proficient in these things (and many things). She is already involved in making the determination. Not long ago, I questioned the handling of one of her employee's treatment...

    The Class of 2014

Needing to vent a bit...My company is playing little games related to my departure and benefits. I know how others here have been treated (benefit extension related) and I expected the same. Now, they are backing down. I was flexible with my end date-staying two extra weeks. However, doing so...

    The Class of 2014

Everyday since I gave notice is a roller coaster ride. One moment everything is going well and the next I just want out. I am so done with the BS. I have less than 20 days. They can't go fast enough. Sent from my iPhone using Early Retirement Forum

    The Class of 2014

Feeling a bit giddy...both DH and I gave notice this morning. Both discussions went better than expected. DH will work through the end of September and I will work through early/mid October to wrap up one final project. What a wonderful feeling...second only to retiring, I suppose.

sharing 2 articles posted today on retirement

This is just what I needed for today. I was just going over my exit strategy-starting with giving notice on Tuesday. I know there will be a lot of questions from everyone from the Board of Directors down. We are ready. This article touches on just what I am looking for in retirement. It is...
