Would like beach vacation in Cuba, any ideas?

I agree with El Senior Fuego. If beaches is what you want, go somewhere with a direct flight We spent some time on a beach in Cuba. It was... OK. I've seen much better. We aren't resort people, although we met people that went to a resort. They'd also seen better During our stay, we had...

There is a lot of attention to detail in this home. Most things are still made by craftsmen. For example, the bath tubs are all hand poured concrete and then tiled by hand with hand painted tiles. Glad you liked it!

I love hearing about families that are able to mix early retirement and raising children. Thank you! My sister is doing a similar thing, but replace "boat" with "RV"

Thank you, it is a great house. We love it. Winnie is a semi-pro photographer so we usually get some good photos Prices outside the resort areas are pretty nice too :coolsmiley: We like to mix it up. Thanks Robby!

    Anyone got any travel planned?

We are in Mexico now until January, then (probably) to Cuba for a few weeks, then to Taiwan. We will be there for a few months, during which I want to circumnavigate the island on a bicycle and summit Jade Mountain

Justin! It has been fun exchanging emails, let's keep it up. We are certainly enjoying our time outside the US. We are living large for a fraction of the price of our lifestyle back in Seattle. We share all of our spending into too to help people do their own cost of living analysis

We're running out of steam at 38 and 40!

NYC is definitely an expensive city. It is probably easy to lower your expenses than to save an additional 3 million Another way to look at this is how much can you afford to spend if you quit your jobs right now, this very minute. At 4% swr, $4870 a month. At 3% swr, $3650 a month...

    How long did decompression/recovery take?

I would dream about the office regularly for the first 3 months, and subconsciously find myself solving work problems throughout the day. I've been out a little over 6 months now and no longer think about work at all

Taxable Investing? How much is too much?

We have about 80% of our funds in taxable accounts. After maxing out 401k the rest just went into the taxable brokerage account Where to put the money partially depends on your target date. If its in your 50's or later, aim for the 401k. If its a lot earlier, do it in the taxable accounts...

    So far, so good.

When you have a loss on rental real estate, you can take the full loss in the year of the sale. It's a nice perk.

what did you do today? (2008-2015) (closed)

It's early, so mostly just sat in bed and caught up on email A few days ago though we released some baby turtles into the sea on the southern coast of Mexico. It is honestly one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had

Thank you REWahoo One of the things I had a difficult time putting together was an estimate for how much full-time travel cost, so I figured I would just publish every dollar of our spending so others could use it for their own planning Several of my former co-workers have softened their...

Grateful to early-retirement.org. Retired in our 30's, traveling the world

Thank you for the kind words. Our story is a pretty modest one, I think. Here is the short version We knew we wanted to travel without working and that meant saving a high percentage of our income. Typically home, car, and food are the biggest expenses in a household, so we focused on those...

Hey SIS, I think the best way to answer that is "enough" More important than how much we saved though is how much we spend. We live a pretty luxurious lifestyle on $2k-$3k a month at the moment. It is likely to go lower the further south we go and then go up when we head to Western Europe. I...

    Anyone got any travel planned?

We have been in Mexico for the past 3.5 months, and will be here 6 or so weeks longer (not sure yet.) Afterwards we are headed to Guatemala and onward through the rest of Latin America Here is a favorite photo of where we are now in Puerto Escondido, Mexico. We went to a secluded beach to...

What have you done to be frugal?

We had no car for most of the last decade. We drew major bus lines to work on a map and found an apartment that was easy access to bus and walking distance to grocery stores and library. I biked to work regularly and to most places within 10 miles if going solo, or would hop on the bus with...
