    Washington Health Care Exchange Nightmare

Curious to know if anyone else out there has experienced this - Last week I got a wad of revised EOBs (no letter of explanation, just a wad of paper) in the mail from my health insurance company, followed with a flurry of bills from doctors who had already been paid by my insurance company...

    ACA premiums tax deductible?

Deductibility of ACA premiums I am self-employed and have an ACA plan, but my understanding is that premiums are not deductible as a business expense unless you have a plan actually established under the business itself. I'm assuming I can't deduct my ACA premiums as a business expense because...

    who needs stinking insurance?

Interesting discussion. My husband and I have each had term life insurance policies over the years, and I'm glad we didn't drop them a couple years ago when the kids graduated from college and moved out. Shortly after the kids left the nest, my husband was diagnosed at 59 with Alzheimer's...

How much of your net worth does your car represent?

If my calculations are correct, our cars amount to 0.0006% of net worth. Both are Hondas, one a 2001 and one a 2002. I hope they still have a lot of life in them because I'd like them to last longer than we do. They both still run great and look pretty good, too.

What has been the greatest salvation...

Our family's liberal arts college experience

I also have two kids with fairly recently-minted liberal arts degrees, one in English and one in Psychology, both from a state university. I would have preferred that they would have gone into one of the STEM fields. However, the daughter with the English degree is 3 years out of college and...

    Alzheimers's - Update

This is a topic that hits very close to home for me, as my husband was diagnosed last year with Alzheimer's at the age of 59. It doesn't run in his family, so it was quite a shock, although the signs had been there for a couple years. He was a corporate CFO for several decades and lost his job...
