    Maybe just need a push?

Well, I did it. I am going to wake up Monday a free man. I am still in a state of shock wondering what came over me. It is going to take a while for this to sink in. Here's to trading a paycheck for freedom!

    Maybe just need a push?

Thanks everyone. It feels good to finally make a call. Right or wrong, here I go. I do feel that something good came from something bad as I am honoring my friend by making this decision.

    Maybe just need a push?

Good timing on your question. I decided to stop bothering everyone here and have been in a state of indecision all spring and summer and was waiting for a "defining" moment. Well it came...Close friend went to work Monday, diagnosed Wednesday, dead the following week. I just put in my 1 month...

    Maybe just need a push?

Thank you for your input. First of all, congratulations on your decision and I wish you a happy retirement! I do appreciate hearing from others that understand the situation. PT with benefits is an option that has been recently offered. I initially decided against it but am now...

    Maybe just need a push?

mrf...Thanks for joining and I appreciate your input. After another very frustrating week at work, I plan to give my one month notice next week. I do appreciate the thought that there are still options as I am still very nervous about this decision. At the very minimum, i do want to take the...

    Maybe just need a push?

Appreciate the responses. I would really like to take the summer off to enjoy the grandkids and catch up on some things. I haven't had more than a week off at a time for the last 40 years. A part time job in something new (different from my past 40 years of employment) sounds interesting to me...

    Maybe just need a push?

Agree with this except I am wondering why you suggest that I should delay social security. I have been thinking that it may be a good idea to take it early, given my compromised health situation. With my job income this year, I was looking forward to starting it next year, one year delayed.

Street, Thank you for this. I have to say that I really appreciate your sweet and positive posts for me and others. You continue to be a uplifting source of encouragement.

    Maybe just need a push?

I really love to hear from others like yourself that have done fine with less, and at a younger age. Thank you for your input...and no offence taken.....I am being foolish, and very wishy washy. I have a friend that retired 8 years ago and now has substantially more $$ than when he started...

    Maybe just need a push?

Thanks for that thread link...I can't believe I missed that one. It really hits home as I have an 80% blockage in one of my arteries.

    Maybe just need a push?

The number one thing is a financial concern....Can I really afford this.

    Maybe just need a push?

Well, I'm 8 weeks further down the road and still have not made a decision. My employer has offered a part time option that allows me to continue with the same health benefits. I am somewhat torn as to what to do. I almost wish the option wasn't offered to make the decision easy. Continue...

Understanding What Causes SS to be Taxable

OK, I am a little confused by what I am reading about this. Can someone help clarify it in plain english? I am trying to understand the income limits that make SS taxable. This is my current understanding for a married couple: 1) They will take $1 for every $2 earned from employment only...

    Maybe just need a push?

I read the same thing and used it in my calculations. You are correct.....it doesn't help much. ACA is much cheaper but the coverage is not quite as good. Still considering my options but I have learned quite a bit today from this thread.

    Maybe just need a push?

Thanks, Just did that and my cost is around $2K/month. Looks like ACA is going to be much less expensive.

    Maybe just need a push?

Thanks for this. I just did and found that the ACA policies that I prefer are all covered. It looks like I can get a nice gold plan for about $1000/month. My work will not give me the cobra costs until I enter my resignation (some goofy HR rule). Does anyone have an estimate of current cobra...

    Maybe just need a push?

Thanks for the healthsherpa link, very interesting website. I will also take your advice and ask all of my doctors about the insurance they accept. I have been somewhat paralyzed with indecision and just need to get off my keester and learn more about this.

    Maybe just need a push?

I do appreciate the responses. This is the only place that I can openly discuss my options. My AA (excluding my primary residence) is kind of weird... about 15% cash, 15% income producing real estate, and 70% equities. It has honestly done very well for me over the years, but is down about...

    Maybe just need a push?

Thanks for the updates to this thread. I really want to retire but still have reservations. The stock market is down. I am concerned about insurance. I keep hearing stories about health care providers not accepting ACA insurance....not sure if this is a problem. I need to do more research...

Thanks for your perspective. I am torn between doing what you say and taking it early because of my health.

    Maybe just need a push?

Great thoughts! I am not ruling out a no-stress fun job in the future. And, as with your situation, you never know what opportunities may be presented. It's comforting to think of an exciting future when my thoughts are pretty bleak with my current employment.

    Maybe just need a push?

Health care: Should be fine Money: Should be fine Kids: Should be fine My mental state: Still a little wishy washy It looks like my plan is in place. I am going to work about 6-8 more weeks to wait out the bad weather and put in my notice. Every time I have second thoughts (often), I go...

I understand what you are saying. I was just trying to be ultra-conservative with my inputs. I was considering for her to retire at 62 also.

    Maybe just need a push?

Thanks. The 12K is based on her earnings history and not spousal benefit. It is coincidental that it is about 1/2 mine. She is 5 years younger, so I modeled hers accordingly. Also, I do have grandkids (that I adore) nearby and would love to spend more time with them.
