    Inherited IRA, Now What?

So what are the rules if you inherit an IRA and the deceased had already begun taking RMDs?

Wife doesn't agree to early retirement

I've told my wife from day one I intended to retire early. When she found out I planned plenty of relaxing and playing, she said she couldn't respect a man that did nothing with his life. I told her I had done plenty with my life over the past 40 years and she need to get used to the idea. She...

    Moen Leak detector

I got a batch of Honeywell sensors free from my homeowners insurance a few years ago. Put them in the water heater area and laundry room in primary home and vacation condo. Comes with an app that gives me notifications. Also tells me temp and humidity levels.

Poll: There is no place for retirement anymore?

Same here. I can't count the number of times (high double digits) I would wake up at 2 am thinking about work, lie there awhile trying to shut it off, and finally getting up and going into the office before 4 am. No way to live.

Poll: There is no place for retirement anymore?

I guess I'm in the severe minority. I went back to work part time in Apr after being retired nearly 2 years. I have enough $ and had plenty to do, I just felt like I was wasting my life not being productive. Crazy thing is, I've been dreaming of retirement since I was in my mid 30s (62 now)...

    Schwab Solvency

Thanks to all the info. I think I can convince her that Schwab is safe, but I now think having a couple of different places to hold assets might be wise.

    Schwab Solvency

My wife is the prototypical nervous nelly and skeptical of everything and everyone. I'm thinking of moving everything we own to Schwab for simplification and she's nervous as can be about having all our eggs in one basket. To her credit, there HAVE been huge companies that have gone under...

Need advice for son re: air force

I'll join TrophyHusband in the minority and say no way. I retired as a Naval Flight Officer (guy in back) after 20 yrs in 2006. I was as gung ho and patriotic as they come in 1986 but I think my generation was probably one of the last that had it good. As TH pointed out, today's military...

    Breakthrough club

My wife got the J&J in April, I haven’t been vaccinated. She brought home COVID 3.5 weeks ago and passed it to me. My symptoms showed up 3 days after hers. Our symptoms have been almost exactly the same, as has been the severity and duration. From what I can tell, the vaccine did her no good.

    Please check my math

Thanks eyemin and Lawrencewendall. I'm kinda giddy right now. Don't know if that's nervous energy or excitement.

I just submitted my resignation. Negotiating a last day with boss. Thanks to all who gave me the comfort level to pull the trigger.

    Please check my math

One last question. I assumed that inputs in the "Pension Income" amounts were gross (before tax). Is this correct?

    Please check my math

Thank you, Dtail. Pensions are COLA'd but even if they weren't, it looks like I've got a lot of runway with $107K to spend. I don't ever see myself being bored. I was talking this over with the Mrs. last night and she asked what I would do with my time. By the time I finished listing my hobbies...

    Please check my math

Correct. $150k was a WAG. I can't envision anyway of spending that much unless I develop a drug habit.

    Please check my math

Good idea. I need a new roof in 8-10 yrs and new HVAC systems in 3-5 yrs. Not sure amounts. Don't know my wife's SS. Mine is $2,059 at 62, $2,993 FRA, and $3,827 at 70.

    Please check my math

Hello all. I've been lurking here for about 5 years and made very few posts. I've learned a lot here and thank you all for your wisdom/experience. I'm getting very close to pulling the trigger and have run many calculators and run FIRECalc many times, using many different scenarios. Everything...

Public or private sector for long term retirement

OP - one thing you need to consider is how motivated are you to achieve. I went into the Fed gov after a 1.5 yr layoff during the dotcom implosion for all the reasons you've heard here - pension, security, healthcare. I managed to stay 11 yrs before I had to leave. I've never had a more soul...

    Fisher Investments

Sorry if this has been covered previously. I did a search for "Fisher Investments" and nearly every thread showed up due to the word "investments". I get a lot of correspondence from Fisher Investments and wonder if anyone has had any experience with them. Thanks.

Late start in semi-crisis. Better late than never?

As many have said here, you're not too late or too far gone. At the age of 36, I walked away from a bad marriage (the right move but executed poorly) with nothing but my clothes, a 10 yr old car, and about $20k in debt. Twenty-three years later, I'm sitting on well north of 7 figures with no...

    Getting close

Unfortunately, I found this site and now the fire (pun intended) is burning hotter every day. I'm almost 59 and really starting to think of retirement as more than just a future dream. I enjoy reading the various threads, getting ideas and discovering things I haven't thought of. The main...

    What Grill do you Recommend

I've got a BGE and a Kamado Joe and for the price, I would go with KJ. The fit and finish is not quite as nice as the BGE but close enough. And BGE nickel and dimes you to death on pricey accessories, some of which are included with KJ. Other brands are probably just as good as well.
