    Milestone Tracker - 34YO

This is helpful advice as we can plan. I didn't even think about the activity costs but I am sure its not college tuition level of daycare costs.

    Milestone Tracker - 34YO

Thank you for the advice. We started to dial back some of our deferred tax for HSA, ROTH, and taxable accounts. Kids are 1 and 3.5 and start pre-K/Kindergarten at 6. That money will be going into the above accounts / looking for passive income. Our biggest challenge and goals will be trying to...

No retirement income level because I want to get my sons up to college - great goal for 2022. To be decided, we always want more in life but VERY happy where we are now. For now we see it as a home for next 5-10 years.

    25 first check up

You're way ahead of the game. Great job! Continue saving. As stated above, passive income on top of your current base salary would be a nice bonus.

    when to buy GE

Unfortunately and fortunately, I bought back in the day at $18, sold at $30ish and then just recently bought back in before the news broke. Depending on what they do with the spinoffs, it may have HUGE upside. Look at ABBOTT and ABBVIE, BAXTER and BAXALTA. Once the spinoffs happened, the base...

How to get into Bitcoin and how does it work?

I beg you all please do not use Bitcoin as an investment. Its a modern day pyramid scheme when you boil it down. There is no sense to valuation of bitcoin. The value is rather the block chain technology. Think Beanie Babies, Pokémon cards, etc. These were all bubbles, but instead of Beanie...

Question: What ratio do you use for housing expense?

Just finished looking at the house and thankfully we both agreed if we are going to increase our spend on housing that it would need to be something that made sense. The house was beautiful but needed work and for that much money we wanted something to our style and not needing updates (style...

Question: What ratio do you use for housing expense?

Thank you for all the input. Sounds like its a personal decision and I thank you all for your experiences. We will definitely sit down and weigh the pros and cons. Look forward to hearing more experiences. PS we are looking at the house in 1 hour, then discussing over dinner.

Question: What ratio do you use for housing expense?

Thank you for the two perspectives. If I was to transfer the money with the sale of our current house, our Loan would only increase by $150K, which is not bad but at the same time I see your point.

Question: What ratio do you use for housing expense?

Good morning all! I wanted to pose a question to everyone regarding what ratio do you use when looking at housing expenses? There are plenty of articles saying the banks use 28-36% of gross income, other frugal experts say 20%, but just wanted to see what everyone uses here? The question...

29 (now 38) - Long Way to Go, But Digging In

I love watching progress year over year! Thank you for the update. A couple of large jumps in the last couple of years and you're only going for $100K in 2018? Push yourself, I think you can hit $140K, depending on the market.

Young, Fortunate, & Eager (27-year old's dream to give back))

    1) $80K was split with ESPP and taxable investments. Only 15% was ESPP (hindsight wish it was more at the time ;)) This is really just my play money for picking stocks as a hobby. 2) My 401K was grown from $83K to $139K, I now included my wife's finances and she grew/saved from $14K to $52K.

I would say we roughly save Great questions, I would say us combined we save around 25-30% pre-tax. Some of the savings are stocking money away for home improvements/emergencies. How frugal is your wife... My fiance has come a long way but she likes the comforts of life. We plan on having...

Unfortunately, I have strayed away from my original plan. My now fiance and I have been doing a lot of home remodeling (I would like to say it adds value, but in the long run it would have been better to save that money). Combined Financials (6 month update): Debt No credit card debt or...

    I like Oil

This is the typical Walmart strategy led by OPEC. With other countries getting involved in Oil production, OPEC says great we will make profits minimal (because we have cash reserves) and squeeze everyone else out of production then increase prices again. Its a classic strategy just executed on...
