    S&P 500 Prediction 2024

Actual close today was 4,769. Here is what experts said this time last year: "The average forecast expects the S&P 500 to end 2023 at 4,009, according to Bloomberg, the most bearish outlook since 1999. But the predictions range from a low of 3,400 to as high as 4,500, representing “the widest...

    What technology for new home?

We are building a new home in 2024. I'm looking for advice / ideas on what technology I should include or prepare for. For example, I'll add a 50amp outlet in the garage for future charging of an EV, even though I don't own one yet. Would you include anything special for future fiber optic...

    Options education recommendation

I have a very rudimentary understanding of options trading and strategies, but no practical experience. I would like to learn more before I put a toe in the water. Are their books or online resources the options experts here would recommend?

what to do with universal life insurance policy?

My DW has had a flexible universal life insurance policy since 1988. We’ve been making automatic monthly payments of $25 for years. I’ve pretty much ignored the policy but just now looked at it. It has a guaranteed interest rate of 4.5%, which seems great now, but the prime rate was 10%...

Broadchurch was very good. Hinterland is in the same vein. Part of the intrigue is seeing the Welsh countryside.

Any surfers here? Still at it?

Feeling old today. Been surfing on and off 25+ years. After about a year off I find I just don't have the same flexibility. My pop-up is crap. I can't seem to get my lead foot (goofy foot) in the right position. What do do? Stretch? Yoga? Floor practice? I'm 64 and hoping to surf...

What does a year start in FireCalc ?

FC allows you to enter a year for quite a few events - - - when to retire, when to begin receiving SS or pensions, when to add or subtract to your portfolio, etc. I assume, but am not sure, that the event would be measured from today vs. January 1 or some other day. For example, if I say I...

Poll: Age of Death for Retirement Planning

I use 99 for me and 99 for my DW who is 4 years younger. I've had relatives live healthy, active lIves to mid-90s but late 90s doesn't look too appealing.

What are we all using for inflation/investment return rates?

This seems like a reasonable assumption to me. But it makes me wonder who is getting advantage of a 10% inflation rate? Insurance companies, pharmaceutical, US government (medicare), doctors, etc? Is there an investment that will help hedge against the higher inflation rate for medical care?

    Social Security and early retirement.

I never knew about the bend points. After reading up on it I don't worry so much about years where I came close, but didn't quite reach, the maximum social security contribution amount. The income above the last bend point won't make that much of a difference.

    Why don't lawyers retire early?

I'm 59 and still practicing after 35 years. I think TallTim makes a good point. In many occupations you are past your prime in your 50's. I bet you won't see many female gymnasts older than 19 in the Olympics. Lawyers can be better in their 60's than they were in the 40's. It feels good to...
