    Stock Indexes vs Performance

Maybe I'm not figuring it correctly. The Yahoo chart shows the DOW at 28989 on 1/20/20 and 32920 on 12/12//22 for a difference of 3931. That's a % change of 13.56% for that near two year period correct?

    Stock Indexes vs Performance

Most of the financial pundits I listen to seem to agree that stocks have fallen around 20% in the two years since Biden took office. But charts for the DOW and S&P at Yahoo show them both up: 13% and 20% respectively for that two year period. What am I missing here?

    Good Time To Move?

That's an interesting idea but I don't know much about it. I do know I don't want to be a long-distance landlord. That assumes some sort of rental management company. I've seen ads for something called Rental Warehouse but I don't know if they are legit. Anyone have any experience with rental...

    Good Time To Move?

Thanks for all the great responses! They have given me some valuable insight. To answer some of the questions: I am not trying to cash in with a market-timed move - I want to move because I don't like the area I am in. If any gain results, I would consider it a cherry on top. Actually anyone...

    Good Time To Move?

I'm considering Greenville SC as there is so much buzz about it on the internet. Going up today to have a look. I was wanting to move and take the advice of renting for a year before I bought again. Also if the bottom falls out of the housing market I could be stuck here for a long time. Just...

    Good Time To Move?

I live where my job was and never liked the location much so I had been thinking of moving for several years. The move would be two or three hours away. I am getting what I think are pretty good offers from Offerpad and expect they may not be around much longer.

    Good Time To Move?

I am thinking about selling my house and moving to a new town and into a rental house for a year. Since home prices appear to be on their way down, it seems this is an opportune time to do the move. I've seen estimates of a possible 20% drop in my area of north Atlanta but of course no one...

    Inherited Mortgage

I have inherited a 25% share in a mortgage that my mother and her business partner financed when they sold a rental house they owned. I will receive 25% payments from the homeowner. I assume I must pay tax on both interest and principal paid to me. Do I need to separate the interest and...

    Retirement Budget

I must admit I have not adequately considered medical issues so I thank you for bringing it up. I was looking into the supplemental insurance and turned up this article that suggests it might not be a good deal: Medicare Supplemental Policies: Do You Need One?Â*|Â*David Belk On the other...

    Retirement Budget

OK so I take that expense number and run it in FIRECalc with my current $630k nest egg and I get a 100% success rate. Then I use the Bankrate calculator http://www.bankrate.com/calculators/retirement/retirement-calculator.aspx assuming 4% inflation and 5% return and it tells me only $451,160 is...

    Retirement Budget

I'm starting to put together a retirement budget and wondered what you all thought: Current expenses $38,096 Current expense - lunches $36,451 Current expense + Medicare cost(1250/yr) $37,701 - Social Security...

    Social Security Benefits

Thanks for all the great ideas! One other thought regarding the Motley Fool chart is that at age 93 it looks like the age 70 line is around $375k and the age 62 line is around $275k. That $100k difference may not seem like so much 30 years from now.

    Social Security Benefits

I found this chart on Motley Fool. Looks like the differences in benefits between starting at 62 or 70 do not become significant until around 85.

    Social Security Benefits

Hello, The estimates I have seen from the Social Security website for ages 62, 66 and 70 assume one is still working but if you retire at 62 and are no longer contributing is there still a benefit to waiting?
