Poll: Your Christmas tree this year

Real trees that we cut ourselves: a 7-footer from a local tree farm and a 5-footer that we cut in our woods, the latter a Charlie Brown tree for next to the clawfoot tub upstairs.

    Non-cash prizes you have won

Fun list of unique prizes! I've won quite a few over the years, from a mini-gas grill, to a weekend in Boston, to an all-expenses paid trip for two to my choice of the top ski resorts in North America (from Conde Nast's Gold List). Ironically, my husband and I don't downhill ski, but we do love...

Did any of you regret early retirement or is anyone worried about leaving too early?

Retired in 2017 @60, DH had retired over a year already, also @60. No regrets for either one of us, especially since we got in a few years of unleashed world travel right up until March 18th of 2020. Now we have been home almost a full year (or at least stayed within our home state) and are...

    Spouse not wanting to travel?

During our working years, DH and I never had more than 2 weeks off at a time. We both loved to travel but wondered if we would realistically like longer trips. A week after I joined him in retirement, we took off for a month in Italy. On the plane home we asked each other if they could have...

    Beginner camera question

A really great option to consider is an Olympus Tough series camera; they are up to TG-6 now and my DH and I have owned several models over the years and they keep improving. We initially got them because they are terrific, easy to use and can be used underwater. They are also freeze and shock...

    Ten bagger

I was actually referring to a personal broker.

    Ten bagger

My best brag is NFLX - acquired @ $4.47 - closed at over $436. today. I have taken enough from it over the years that whatever happens with the rest, it sure doesn't owe me anything. It is the stock that gave me confidence to make picks that "experts" cautioned against.

Poll: Are You Ready To Return To Your Favorite Dine In Restaurant?

DH and I both love to cook, but we also like to support local restaurants and try all sorts of places when traveling (which we did before and hope to resume). As to returning to indoor restaurant dining -- all the protocols that I have seen are total ambience wreckers. I prefer to get occasional...

What time of year did you retire at?

I retired on May 31st, took off June 6th for a month in Italy. It was a great way to transition and learn if DH and I would enjoy traveling for longer than two weeks (working life limit). The answer was YES!

Poll: Your side of the bed?

Nope, we use the same system, DH gets the bathroom access side. That's fine with me 😊

    I am amazed

It's later than you think When I retired @60, I often heard, "you're too young to retire." My response: "that's the idea." I had a great, but time intensive career and wanted to be unleased early enough to roam the world freely with my husband while we both have health, energy and each other...

What did you do in your first month?

Went to Italy for a month. It was a great way to separate from a 36+year career that was rewarding, but FULL time. That was two years ago, still traveling much of the time and loving it. Next up, Indonesia,, snorkeling and bird watching, chasing National Geographic moments with my equally nature...

The 2019 cell/smart phone plan thread

T-Mobile 55+ fan here. DH and I travel a lot and find great global service, with reasonable add on fees for voice calls only. Free limited WiFi in-flight is a bonus as are some of the"T-Mobile Tuesday" offerings, such as 10¢/gallon off at Shell stations.

    SpaceX Falcon Heavy Launch

DH and I got to watch the launch from the air. Our DCA-bound flight from MIA was held in place until the rocket took off. What a bonus on our way back to Maine from Belize.

    Home temperature

Maine home We keep our thermostat at about 55°F at night and 65-68°F daytime If a power outage threatens, we jazz it higher or for sensitive guests or if someone is sick. We like it cool generally.
