    Where to invest 300K

Forget the Lending Tree portion. Keep 50k in cash, 75k in bonds, 150k in the markets (index funds for someone at your early knowledge level) and 25k is something solid, like silver.

    Sleep Number Mattress

2 things about a bed; 1, go big, nothing under a King, you will get bigger even though the bed can't and 2, this is one of the few times it is OK to spend money, you can't really put a price on a good night's sleep, it is worth its weight in gold and if you dollar cost average, it is pennies a...

    Sunday anxiety-work related

I read a post somewhere that called it 'the Sunday dreads' One simple solution is to make Monday the day you do something 'fun' at work like each lunch with your work friends, instead of doing it on Friday which already has its own reason why is it a good day.

    Road Rage Self-Check?

I used to live in the city, my commute was 8.5 miles, it took 30 minutes and I have gotten out of the car to fight more than once. Then I moved to nowhere, my commute is still 30 minutes but it is now 32 miles and I smile every minute of it as I peacefully enjoy the quiet drive. Quality of Life...

    difficulties gathering family history

I think another problem is that most of us come from straight up peasant stock. We didn't know much about our family history because we weren't exactly accomplishing much and were probably taught not to be to too proud of anything. There are no portraits in my house of important predecessors....

    Coin collection value

Ebay works, but remember some book can say a coin is worth xxx but that means nothing if nobody will actually pay for xxx for it. The actual value is what you can get, the more time you are willing to wait, the higher price you will likely get.

AWD Vs FWD Living Through Snowy Winters?

FWD is fine, but definitely get snow tires, they truly make a difference. As a test I drove the same car on the same road conditions on the way to the tire shop and on the way back home, night and day different.

Crystal Ball on Future SS Haircut

So to be clear, this thread is not about predicting what haircuts will become fashionable in the second term of a Trump presidency? I was thinking shaved on the back and the sides with 3 inches or so left on top, combed sideways but still looking like maybe you weren't trying too hard to go...

Retiring to a rural setting or small town

concerns about my kids in a small town I would retire to a small town in heartbeat as long as there was a movie theater and a few good places to eat. My concern is where I live while I am still raising my kids. The city has a lot of drawbacks, I currently live in a town of 700, but I worry my...

    Diversification through rental property?

I would be hesitant to make your first venture in rental properties an out of state adventure. you will want to drive past (ie stalk) your first baby in a market you are at least a little familiar with. The turnkey out of state is for when you are more comfortable with the whole process. IMO.

    Losing Money When Decluttering?

Remember a racing pigeon in the hand is worth two in the bush. I used to get caught up in the 'asking price' of similar items I was trying to sell on EBAY.
