Sleeping Well in this crazy market?

I have been FIRE'd for 3 years now and every time one of these "events" pops up, I turn off the news and go for a long walk (or on a vacation). If you have crafted a balanced portfolio of solid investments and have a reasonable SWR, these events are but little irritants that should be ignored.

    transition to retirement portfolio

No worries. There are quite a few young millionaires here and I don't think anyone on this board will harbour any ill will to someone who has acheived FI/RE at an early age (right, Ted?). Actual end amount does not matter anyhow as long as it is sufficient. What matters is how it is allocated...

    Good magazines

It's an expensive magazine and one that does not readily discount. But pound for pound it is probably the best value around. Not light reading, though.

    Welcome Young Dreamers!

Nords, thanks for the writeup on Schwab. I used to be a Schwab customer until they sold out their UK ops to Barclays. Their execution only brokerage used to be fairly cheap here, but competition has put paid to that. I do wonder what a bunch of over 70's are doing looking at stock pickers for...

Hope for those who likely will have no pension?

Re: Hope for those who likely will have no pension Sorry, GDER. IIRC is short for If I Recall Correctly. It was a reference to the business model in vogue during the dot-com boom. No customers never stopped anyone then from setting up and floating a business.

Even part-time work sucks (or blows)...

Tsk, tsk. Very naughty. ;) Reality is I no longer do OT. After years of evenings and weekends ruined by pagers and cell phones, I refuse to work more than a back breaking 6 hours a day, less if I can help it. It's the principle of the thing. I believe that no-one should treat other people in...

Even part-time work sucks (or blows)...

Indeed, I am working in the UK at the moment. It is not quite as straightforward as simply standing my ground. After talking to several other consultants, it appears this is an across the board (i.e. global) change to all consultant contracts. They have given everyone 4 weeks notice of the...

Even part-time work sucks (or blows)...

Well, it happened. I have been working part-time as a consultant for almost a year now and have been looking for a reason to go into retirement full-time and my client has just given me one. Apparently, in this brave new world, working for a wage is not enough. The client has demanded that if...

Who drains more SS-- ERs or regular retirees?

Two things: Firstly, the stress is probably the major reason for early death. It would be interesting to see how long people who enjoy stress free work or, perhaps, who are able to cope, no, thrive on stress perform. Many notable people toil into their eighties and beyond and many also drop...

    RE with Children

ER with children can be great for ALL of you. Wouldn't you rather spend time with your children rather than co-workers? When I was working fulltime, I left the house at 7AM and came home at 7PM. My poor wife cooked, cleaned, fed, dressed, ferried and bathed the kids all by herself. At least now...
