I think those two sentences sum it up. Thank you.

    I think I know, but...

Thank you all again for your viewpoints. For now I’m leaning towards keeping the $100k in the money market account.

Great replies looking at it from several angles. Thank you all.

    I think I know, but...

I've read the multiple threads indicating it is generally wiser financially to carry a mortgage and invest money elsewhere which could otherwise be used for paying down the mortgage. I grasp the counter argument that the psychological benefit of having your home paid for brings a peace of mind...

5 Ideas That Will Reshape Your Retirement

The first point of thinking in how many more times will something be experienced jogged my memory of wheeling into a hospice facility an elderly gentleman on the stretcher. It was starting to rain. He asked that we pause to leave him in the rain for a moment. He remarked it was the last time...

    Identity Theft Protection

On the recommendation of a friend, I am considering going with Zander Identity Theft Protection. I have read some positive reviews. Can anyone here weigh in? https://www.zanderins.com/identity-theft-protection

    financial advisors?

On the follow up call a couple of days ago I told the F/A soliciting my business that I was going another direction in large part due to my being uncomfortable with Blue Rock and how hard she was pushing to use that as the cornerstone of my portfolio. Just now she sent this link in an obvious...

    financial advisors?

And this is behavior that compromises any trust I might have for this F/A. If she is recommending a product that is such a “stinker“, why should I trust her to act in a fiduciary role making recommendations that are indeed best for me? Other F/A’s I have interviewed who promote simpler more...

    financial advisors?

Thank you for the suggestions. I have purchased and read all of those books. They certainly pulled back the curtain and showed that things can be done very simply. Regardless, I lack the confidence to do it on my own. I know what things I’m good at, and I don’t feel investing and making the...

    financial advisors?

Presently she is proposing various mutual funds to complement this REIT. Her approach is that the Blue Rock REIT will help offset inflation and provide great growth while the mutual funds provide long term stability if given time to grow despite the ups and downs.

    financial advisors?

Exactly one of my concerns from other warnings that I have read here and elsewhere. That I would be put into a convoluted complex product leading to a painful extrication if I want to get out of the quagmire. I also predict future products being pitched with similar fees.

    financial advisors?

I was tempted as several of my peers who retired over the last 5 years have gone into that REIT fund and have enjoyed great returns. Looking at the snapshot of the history I’ve attached, I think much of that has to do with fortunate timing and a little bit with smoke & mirrors with how they...

    financial advisors?

I'm in the process of interviewing financial advisors. Your comment about the front load fees struck me as one F/A who I overall liked is pushing hard for me to put 15% of my current employer held portfolio into Blue Rock with a front load fee of 4.75%. It's just not sitting right with me.

    Downside of fixed income annuity

Your experience with your former employee makes me look at this even another way in a negative light. I’d be taking the money that’s in my Roth IRA and my 457 to purchase the annuity. Those accounts have taken big hits during the recent downturn. By cashing those accounts out to buy the annuity...

    Downside of fixed income annuity

Thank you. Others have already convinced me that my doubts are well founded. Curious though if you’re making your recommendation based on knowledge of annuities in general or if you looked at the details in the attachments I posted and if there’s something in particular you see as being a negative?

    Downside of fixed income annuity

I wish I had the knowledge to make these decisions soundly. As mentioned at the beginning of this thread, I am not savvy enough. It’s not due to not wanting to educate myself, but my ignorance persists. I very much wish I had a family member or close confidant to hold me by the hand and steer me...

    Downside of fixed income annuity

That right there is certainly some good advice I’ll try to follow. My plan had been before pulling the rip cord and giving notice, to first cement in the path for my finances post retirement. To that end, I’ve spoken with several F/A’s. I filled out a contact form on the Dave Ramsey site and...

    Downside of fixed income annuity

Perhaps good advice. What makes this situation a little more uncomfortable for me is that I sought this F/A out particularly because of recommendations from my peers who have retired over the past several years. By all accounts from all of those retirees, this F/A has been phenomenal with how...

    Downside of fixed income annuity

The consensus is in, and I thank all of you for your direction. Looks like I will be having an uncomfortable conversation with this F/A in the very near future. To answer the question about whether my pension is inflation adjusted, at year six and every year there after I get a 3% COLA Thank...

    Downside of fixed income annuity

Thank you all for the input. Despite how I try to educate myself here and elsewhere, I do not speak the financial language you are all so fluent in. :( As you all speak of the details I should be ferreting out, I look at the 25 pages of information and really cannot make heads nor tails of it...

    Simple Dash Cam

Reporting back with what I went with. I purchased this very inexpensive dash cam from Walmart.com. Only $35. I bought one for my car and one for my truck. Being over $50 for the order, no shipping charges. The buttons/functions are easy to understand. I've checked numerous times over the...

    Downside of fixed income annuity

I used the search function looking for information. The results returned were overwhelming but not helpful. I have read here often that if a F/A recommends an annuity, run. A F/A I am consulting with is recommending a Nationwide fixed income annuity for the lion's share of my meager nest egg...

    Simple Dash Cam

If at the scene of the accident I can show convincing video to the traffic officer so they issue the citation on the spot to the other driver, that’s what I prefer. Hopefully cut & dry making it easier to deal with the offender’s insurance company. In this case, when I called the other party’s...

Mine likewise has the flashing light and the screen is showing the footage as I drive. Through trial & error I also can see when the camera is in record mode versus playback mode.
