Using fixed pension numbers seems broken?

I put in a fixed pension, by entering the dollar value as pension income and unchecking the inflation adjusted box. When I run the model and look at the spreadsheet data, the adjustment is being adjusted for inflation. Seems broken to me.

    John Mauldin's weekly e-letter

It's on retirement again this week. He echoes comments made here about not enough workers to support retirees. See http://www.2000wave.com/article.asp?id=mwo021105

    Fixed pensions

Ok, I know firecalc can handle fixed pensions, and I have run a number of full scenerios with pension, savings, changes in amount needed, and SS. However today, obviously with too much time on my hands (actually doing my annual review and getting distracted....), I decided to decompose the run...

    Global CPI

With all the attention to the strength of the dollar, I began wondering about how a "global CPI" would have changed over the last couple of decades (and the next of course). A global CPI would be some kind of US dollar based (because my investments are mostly US dollars) CPI. The global CPI...

    online book on ETF's

A friend just asked me a question about something he was reading online, and I looked thru it to answer him. Seems like a good online book to me. It's short, just 20 odd 1 or 2 page "chapters". It is pro ETF's, and also talks about different investment fee structures...

    POPR analysis

The various withdrawal strategies, such as gummy's 'sensible withdrawals' (less plus a percentage of the extras) got me thinking a little more about the payout period reset (POPR) mentioned earlier on this site. Also the discussions of optimal asset allocations of 60% tips were a little...

    about the retirement crisis

Two articles I read today reminded me of earlier discussions here. Frist is John Mauldin's weekly newsletter, which this week is on "super trends" which includes demographic trends. It is at http://www.frontlinethoughts.com/article.asp?id=mwo013004 I don't always agree with his newsletters but...

    mutual fund style information

Ok, I found it once, thought I had bookmarked it and now can not find it again. I am looking for a site that has information on mutual funds style (index in particular) in more detail than morningstar. The site I think I had found had percentages in each of the style boxes. The best I can find...

    goverment vs. cryptography

Well, my comment abut funds that say 'trust me' that I just made got me thinking...there are a few people posting on these boards that are a little less than enamoured with our goverment :) Have any of you read Crypto by Steven Levy? I found it quite interesting and well organized (for the...

    Real estate as an investment

I've been reading the various posts on TIPS, international investing, and the 1966-82 topics, and wanted to start a new discussion on real estate. In particular, I am semi-retired and have invested some money in an apartment building. I find that it has some very nice characteristics: Tax...

    SS options in firecalc

Well, today I got my SS Statement with the future income of $0 assumption, as I had requested via the SS web site. I was looking at the options for early, normal, and late payouts, and they were: Age 62 - $1264 a month Age 66 - $1676 a month Age 70 - $2212 a month Ok, it looks like it is...

Don't use a blank field in FireCalc

Dory - I took SS out to see what the survival percentage without SS is and did it the wrong way - I just backspaced over the number, went down and hit submit. I got back a results page showing: So don't completely believe the above message - just go look for blanks in the input! Wayne

    Next round FIRECalc suggestions

Per Dory's request, this is a continuation of a request for new features in FIRECalc from the 'testing new FIRECalc' topic. The ideas here are partially from various peoples posts in that topic, including Moguls and Dory36. Make provision for both adjustments to financial need in retirement as...
