Preferred Stock Investing-The Good , The Bad and The In Between 2021

AGNCP is a mortgage reit. Make sure you understand what a mortgage reit is before investing in their preferred shares. There are a number of risks, particularly in this environment. Mortgage reits invest in long-term mortgages with short term funding sources. When the short term rates are...

We are entering a "Golden Period" for fixed income investing

JPM Preferred Stock Thoughts on JP Morgan Series JJ? Currently yielding over 6%. I particularly like these as they were issued in 2021 when rates were super low. JP Morgan would theoretically call many other series, with higher yields, before this one. These preferreds are otherwise perpetual...

With stock market crash, can you still retire?

The first symbol I looked up from your list, ORC, the stock is down 63% YTD and the company looks to be losing a lot of money.

I’m getting 7-8% on collateralized, relatively short term loans. Can you beat that?

Crazy story! Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a cool business you have.

Good point. I haven't looked at BDCs in awhile. I should take another look. Thanks.

I’m getting 7-8% on collateralized, relatively short term loans. Can you beat that?

I’ve been close to 100% stocks for most of my working life, but looking to diversify. I don’t mind some risk, but I don’t want to go through another cycle of down 30-40% which will come at some point. Always does. Thus, looking for some alternatives in a low yield world.

That is awesome. Can I ask how you got started? Also, how did you find a network of flippers to fund?

I’m getting 7-8% on collateralized, relatively short term loans. Can you beat that?

They add 3 to 5 new mortgages every couple days to choose from. Each mortgage is funded within a few days. I’ve been investing there for about two years now and have had no issues. I’ve had about 20 mortgages where the home has sold and the loan paid off. Currently, I have (parts of) about 50...

Thanks. I will check it out. I am familiar with Jeff Gundlach, but have never spent any serious time looking at his funds.

I’m getting 7-8% on collateralized, relatively short term loans. Can you beat that?

Can you beat that? Serious question as I’d love to find other ways to get yield. I checked out some of the discussions on the preferred board and you really have to buy some low quality preferreds to get decent yield. The loans I reference in the subject line are from Peerstreet. The loans...

Retire in your 30s and Get Subsidized Healthcare? I don't get it.

He's one of my favorite bloggers so I feel bad picking on him. Just an example of the overall concept. I see here that many don't agree. The good news is that he's probably making more money because of me as I'm a regular reader. If I threw my whole life out there, I'm sure many could easily...

Retire in your 30s and Get Subsidized Healthcare? I don't get it.

I'd be equally bothered if I found out an able bodied person was getting Medicare or SS in their 30s.

Retire in your 30s and Get Subsidized Healthcare? I don't get it.

I'm definitely on board with managing assets to avoid taxes as much as possible. Certainly understand that it's done at all ages. What I have a hard time with is coming up with a plan to quit working really young without budgeting for health care and then getting it free from others. Oh well...

Retire in your 30s and Get Subsidized Healthcare? I don't get it.

I was reading the Root of Good blog recently. If I remember correctly, the blogger retired at 33 and now earns around $40k per year. He's getting heavily subsidized healthcare through Obamacare, ACA or whatever you'd like to call it. We're paying taxes to pay the subsidy for a guy to retire...

Does it bother you that FAANGs make up over 10% of the S&P 500??

Definitely. I’m still working, but would rather avoid another full roller coaster ride like we experienced during the financial crisis. I’d rather have lower volatility even if my gains are reduced.
