What is your pet peeve of the day? -- 2021

I wish we had more traffic circles near us. Especially for simple "T" intersections where you have to stop. There isn't a lot of traffic in our neighborhood but we have waaaay too many stop signs. Those could be removed and replaced with roundabouts saving fuel and time. On the other hand, not...

In Your City - What Are The Most Desirable Neighborhoods and Why?

If you chose Anaheim, where we live, I'd have to say pick something in Anaheim Hills. Next to us is Villa Park and Yorba Linda which are also great. Those cities have good access to the airport, shopping and the beach. They have a lot of homes that sit in the hills with great views or quiet...

    Luggage

We added/switched to carry-on back packs for our last trip to Scotland/Iceland/London. Made it much easier to walk between trains/busses cabs to hotels. No roller bags to drag along over cobblestones.

Why do they have to make getting groceries more challenging all the time? We have to bring our own bags, or pay extra for them. Then we need to cut and bring paper coupons if we want the "good price". We're forced to have a membership for grocery stores or we really have to pay up. NOW, I...

How much do you spend per month on fitness?

DW and I used to attend boot camp classes which we really enjoyed. Those were $250 a month. But Covid killed that off. Now I go to 24 hr fitness for free (Silver Sneakers) and she pays $20 a month. I paid for a few personal training sessions beyond that. So it's all pretty cheap right now.

    Blow that Dough 2024

I'm waiting for the thread "WHY CAN'T I BLOW THAT DOUGH"! Have two quotes for hardscaping - can't pull the trigger. Planned out a cruise to Mekong Delta - can't do it. Want to do an expedition cruise to Antarctica Did all the research for a trip to watch the F1 race at Suzuka - probably too...

    Your 2023 effective tax rate

This year we had no income and didn't prepay anything. We got a $3,267 refund from the Feds and owe CA $0. We kept our income low to qualify for ACA benefits but maybe I overdid it.

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

We watched the entire series last year. It's a relaxing, feel-good show that has a nice pace to it.

Is it a sin for wanting to own a nice car?

Exactly. It's been possible, especially with the right Porsche models, to buy them and basically drive for free. (Don't know how long that will last though.) My little Ford Focus RS purchased in 2016 was still worth what I paid for it, at least when I last checked.

    Not blurting it out

I have four siblings and all but one is retired. For whatever reason, I'd love to know what their net worth is. Is that weird? Whenever we discuss travel, new cars, new homes, or vacation homes, I just wonder. At the same time, they suspect we have some money based on our living in California...

Why Your Auto Insurance Premiums are Going Up

Maybe California is rated lower because that study relies on reported insurance claims where the driver has no insurance. Since so many of crashes result in a hit and run, the guilty driver is never identified. California leads the nation in fatal hit and runs, over 10%.

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

We started watching "You are what you eat" also. Then they started devoting more time to politicians and political points. Still interesting, but will skim the rest.

    What was your WR YTD

Our withdrawal rate was 3.04%. Since that number included an $18k unplanned HVAC replacement and $25k in travel this year, I'm happy with it.

    Final 2023 Expenses

We're in Orange County, CA. Paid off cars and home. Our total spend was $94,097. That included about $25,000 for travel and another 15K for a new HVAC system. Plus another 5K for dental.

The worst present you ever received?

For my fiftieth birthday I wanted to celebrate the momentous occasion with my two sisters that live an 11 hour drive away. We made arrangements and drove to their home. My sisters decided that it would be funny if they gave me a large penis shaped cake for my birthday present. I was pretty much...

    Tipping

Just the logistics of trying to tip UPS, postman and garbage collectors. I am trying to imagine waiting for the garbage man, running out while their equipment is screaming and climbing up steps to their window. Then pounding on it to get their attention. Just to hand them a tip.

We have four Aldi's around us. One North -25 miles away. One East - 22 miles away, one West is 33 miles away and the one South is 24 miles away. We live in a doughnut hole even though we're in the middle of Orange County, CA. Next time we're out for something else, we'll have to try them out...

    Latest Inflation Numbers and Discussion

Asked the DW to pick up a box of saltines. One of the cheapest snacks you could get. Not long ago, in my mind, they were 99 cents a box. She came home and had me guess how much they cost today, on sale. I figured double, like $1.79.... no, they are now $3.95 a box on sale.

Poll: Your Christmas tree this year

We bought three Monterey Pine seedlings from the local Christmas tree farm about ten years ago. Planted them on our side hill. This year we harvested the last one. It's about fourteen feet tall and definitely a Charlie Brown tree.

    Your most memorable Christmas toys

BB Gun. We set up a range in the basement and it was great fun. At least until I thought it would be brilliant to see if a BB would go through the block glass window. Not my fault my parents didn't think I needed supervision while using a gun, right?

That's exactly what happened to us, doesn't matter that they don't have a payment method to bill, they just continue to send it and then threaten collections. Nice business strategy.
