Yep! Same. Good low alcohol option.

    Your Favorite Beer

I've been drinking Athletic Lite with a splash of bloody mary mix, like Phroig. I haven't found any NA that do it for me and most have higher calories and carbs. Athletic Lite is 25 calories and 5 g carbs. I have also been drinking Sierra Nevada Hop Splash - hop-infused sparkling water...

Have you given up on DIY?

Added on to first house, built second house, and fully gutted and remodeled current house, all with very little or no contractor help. As eyesight diminished in my 50s DIY became less and less appealing. 64 now, and in the last couple of years I have tried to hire things out but work rarely...

Am I crazy for wanting cosmetic surgery?

Personally I would not do it considering the risks, but to each their own. Perhaps a more important reason would be the potential affect on children and grandchildren. Is this really the "solution" that you want to lead them to by example?

Those currently working and planning ER aren't going to like this

Please pick another sport/hobby. The golf courses have already been way too busy in the last 1-1/2 years since so many are "working from home."

Professional Certifications: Give Up or Maintain in Retirement?

Been RE for just over 2 years. Renewed Civil PE last year just in case, although I doubt I will need it again. Will look into retirement status next year when renewal comes again. Also had Project Management Professional (PMP) certification that I let expire due to ongoing education...

Uh, WOW! Agree with skills etc. Not my taste, but if it was the price is actually a bargain.

    FIRE And My Mental Health

I absolutely obsessed over the numbers for the last couple years before RE. Never had anybody else look at them. All is well.

    Lending/Gifting $ for daughter's house down pmt?

Thank you OP - Very timely post for me. Doing similar for DS and DDIL. It will be a gift for the reasons stated by many above - less complicated. I suppose I should track it for future inheritance but then I have to somehow value all of the sweat equity I applied to other DS house. Thank you...

What have you read recently? 2009 -2020

Recently finished The Great Influenza by John Barry. Interesting look at the 1918 pandemic - the history of medicine during the era, key players with a focus on the medical folks, and the unfolding of the disease. A bit surreal how similar much of it was compared to today.

    Wave 2 and 3

Currently reading, The Great Influenza, about the 1918 pandemic. Very interesting read written by one of the experts being cited today - John Barry. Given the depth of the coverage in the book of the subject I have no issue suggesting he is an expert on the subject. I would expect some...

How have your expenses changed with the Corona Virus?

Like most others, down significantly. Primarily down because of canceled trips, no restaurants, less driving, and no gym costs. Groceries up slightly since eating all meals at home, but that is more than offset by savings.

Running, jogging, walking app.. Anyone use one?

Garmin here. I like it a lot. Was looking for something that could do both running and golf. It does these very well, and so much more.

    Restaurants

Still going out to my short list of locally owned restaurants and breweries, although probably a little less. Having worked restaurants in my younger days I have always understood the additional exposure that you get to germs in this environment.

eyeglasses, do you like your progressives , bifocals etc

Tried progressives but did not like them. Tried contacts, but really did not like those. Been with bifocals for several years and they have been fine. Just ordered a set of trifocals and we shall see.

What time of year did you retire at?

December because that is when a lot of things came together for me. I was concerned about starting RE during the short winter days but that was not an issue. Funny, when you get to do what you want when the sun is out it makes a world of difference. Yes, it also helped that I am in a mild...

Advice: 9 Year Age Difference and Retirement

10 year difference here. I RE about a year ago. DW is in prime of career and loves her work. No issues since we both have independent activities/interests. The only issue I could think of for us was if I ever get the desire for long-term travel, but fortunately I haven't so far. As others...

+1 I suppose it does make sense that the people who over apply perfumes may not actually smell it themselves.

When to get rid of a used car

The answer has varied over my lifetime, and financial situation. Early on vehicle dependency was a risk I accepted given the funds available. I did several roadside repairs to make it home. Today vehicle dependency is a must as DrRoy states above.

    hiring a personal assistant

I've learned I do not enjoy routine maintenance of things. Hence, living in a place where my only yard work is sweeping off the patio and tending to a few planters. Have a housecleaner twice per month that started when still working. Thought that would end when I retired but can't bring...
