    John Galt update

Hey. I got new glasses. Now I look like Teddy Roosevelt. BTW, the Van Dyke and horns are a nice touch. :) But seriously folks, I still stand behind all 8000+ posts. The CHPs, sarcastic, rude, non-PC, provocative, insulting, profane, and just plain silly. Especially my posts about Nords and CFB...

"which the what the above is" ?? "cant"?? "its"?? Obviously, my absense didn't elevate CFB's IQ. He and Nords could start a club together. How about "Densa"? JG

    Life Expectancy

I use 60, and I'm 62 now. :) Actually I pay no attention to this. Just today I'm talking to my Dad (89). He says, "I think I might make 100!" Could happen as his father, grandfather, uncle, etc all passed the century mark. Sooooooo, I have the good genes but I don't allow them to enter into my...

0% FOR LIFE!! BT credit card games

This is exactly how I feel, i.e. "who cares?". I have made what is to me a huge amount of income, just by doing a little reading/banking and writing a few checks. Believe me, if it felt like real "work" I would have nothing to do with it. BTW, I have not been able to preset my own credit...

    Landlord Perils

I must have a thousand stories from my "former life" as an active landlord. Here again, guess I was lucky as I never had to go through the complete "legal/stuff in the street" eviction. Always was able to negotiate some kind of a deal to get 'em out. Even if I lost some rent, it was always a...

    "Human" Customer Service

I did not check the website, but what I do (100% success so far) is just start in hitting single keys (beginning with 0, and working through all numbers). If that doesn't work, repeat it but timing the entry at different points during the recorded message. Finally, go to double (or triple)...

    Saving too much?

You all know my story. I too thought of C-T when this topic came up. Looking back, I don't feel a bit deprived based on the "saving" I did in my youth (really didn't do any); nor do I feel a bit deprived now, even though I have scaled way back from my "salad days". Pretty much sailed through...

Single old babes, want to marry again?

I'm close except for Number 1 and traveling is mostly low budget. Also, the house is on an island and the condo on a lake. And, my IRA isn't much either. Heirs may be pesky - not sure. Guess it wouldn't work. :) JG

Single old babes, want to marry again?

Was at a Mensa luncheon last week. The topic came up about finding a partner within the organization. One guy opined........."The odds are good, but the goods are odd!" :) I'm outa here. Semper fi! JG

0% FOR LIFE!! BT credit card games

Been doing this for years. This "system" actually provided 100% of my personal income for quite a few months. FYI - I currently hold 17 cards with high limits. If I don't have high limits, then, obviously the card is of no use. An aside. This seems to me to be the biggest no-brainer ever; yet...

How Many Know Someone Who Retired Then Became Seriously Ill Or Died?

Actually, it's a fact that 100% of retirees become seriously ill and/or die. Knowing this was the primary driving force behind my own ER. In my circle of close friends, classmates, fishing buddies and former business associates, I can't think of anyone who has died. A lot are still working...

Tied Down by Home/and or Pets.

I leave my lab at a kennel for 2 months when I go south. I feel guilty, but the condo has a limit of one dog, 20 lbs, so.............. The kennel is on a farm near my home and I know the owner is very fond of "Maggie". Still, I would take her along if I could. JG

    Round One - Obama??

That is because we have become a nation of whiners, waiting for someone (government) to solve our problems. Your government won't solve the problem. They are the problem. JG

Single old babes, want to marry again?

Good topic. How about a geezer perspective................. My track record is not so good, and there is a lot to be said for the single life. OTOH, I never say never, but the odds are not good. My standards are impossibly high (for a spouse) and I am no longer willing to work at it...

65% Spend More Time with Their Computer than Their Spouse

I am not sure what this means but since my name was used. :) I do not believe I ever neglected my former spouse in favor of the computer. She undoubtedly would disagree. That said, it's interesting that two (2) sources of such pleasure also contain the seeds of such frustration and trouble. At...

what dvds have you rented lately?

First instance of "Galting" since my return. (Hope it's good for you too) :) Patience paid off. A local bank gave me a free DVD player for opening a new ($100 min.) checking account. I also got them to throw in a box of free checks which should last a year or so. JG
