Bye. I am leaving these boards indefinitely. Nothing personal against y'all; I just need to focus on my present now. Matthew 6:34 for those of you similarly inclined.
Martha, Dory36, intercst, Laurence, nwsteve, and Brat...thanks.

Dan Tien,
I've only sold 2 houses of my own, but I'm widely read on the subject ;-)
My advice:
Negotiate hard on this deal and try to slow it down to allow other listings to come in. Ignore what your realtor's advice is; he or she is working for the sale, not for you.
If this first buyer...
Or apply for jobs that pay twice what you make now and for which you are clearly not qualified. They almost certainly won't hire you, but if they do you get double the money!!!

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. From some rough figuring I could make about $500 for just some paperwork hassle. Sign me up ;-)
Over on fatwallet, they also point out that if you have a Visa debit card associated with your checking account, you can ask the CC company to do a balance...
BMJ,
I use ING right now to store liquid emergency money. They have been perfect in my opinion -- I got a bonus for opening my account, the website is straightforward and has all the info I need, they're FDIC insured, and they pay one of the highest rates in the nation. ED has had higher rates...
I'm in a similar situation. In rough terms, I'll hit FI in about 15 years, and have a wealthy relative who may pass away between now and then. Obviously, the closer to FI that happens, the more likely it is that the $ will push me over the top.
I don't think I would use the word "guilt" here...
obryanjf,
One way to avoid a large NW at the end with a 4% withdrawal is to start with a 4% withdrawal and every year increase last year's amount by inflation and calculate 4% of the new year's portfolio and take whichever amt is larger. In REHP terminology this is called the payout period...
Re: I thought I'd post a Picture of my Wife in her Swim Suit.....
Yup and nope, respectively. Sorry ;-)
Guess I'm a bit of an obnoxious tease.
Have Funds,
We're both a little amazed that it happened at all. I think she said I was in the right place at the right time, and I was persistent...
Fair enough, I agree with you there. I'm in the "there's no real good excuse for a divorce" camp, but I've seen situations where I'd have to agree that divorce is the best option. Maybe Lance is one of the exceptions. Who am I to judge, anyway?
malakito
A fairly rare extemporaneous criticism from me:
I am very impressed with Lance's victories in the Tour, and his battle against cancer and so forth. I read one of his books. On the other hand, I think it's absolutely rotten of him to have divorced his wife and the mother of his 3(?) kids.

Re: I thought I'd post a Picture of my Wife in her Swim Suit.....
My wife is IMHO drop dead gorgeous. I've told her before that I think she should be a model. I think she's somewhere between Charlize Theron, Meg Ryan, and Julie Bowen from the TV series "Ed"...
From what I understand, applying for a job online usually counts. Nothing so involved as an interview. You can probably submit a resume online to a company website without breaking a sweat. Do think through what kinds of jobs you might apply for since there may be a possiblity of the company...
I use an older version of Quicken, but here are a couple of things that occasionally trip me up:
1. Check the dates on your transactions. It's possible that if you put the dates in the future, Quicken doesn't include them in your net worth.
2. Check the price history on your investments in...
I'm looking at this seriously for my medical coverage for the next year while I get my MBA. In my case, Martha's right. I have to enroll at least full time; also, the maximum prescription coverage is $400 -- probably not enough for the average 60 year old.

I thought it was the Trilateral Commission. What about the unbelievable treasure hidden under the church at Wall Street and Broad? We could be using that as collateral.
Donner, I think if you stopped to think logically about this report, there would be some extremely obvious things that don't...
1. Do your own taxes and work on minimizing them. Taxes are my number one expenditure and are probably yours, too. Learn about itemizing, consider starting a small home business, etc.
2. Shop all of your regular bills. Check to see if you can get lower rates on insurance, utilities, etc.

They're awesome alright.
My family was at the airshow where this happened:

Fortunately the pilot ejected right before impact. The wreckage and flames came pretty close to hitting the control tower.
We didn't know until about five...
I think you can almost spend about as much or as little as you want to to raise a kid. Certainly food and clothing are necessary, but not horrendous. If you bought second-hand clothes, toys, cribs, etc., you could probably sell them for as much as you pay for them. You do get a tax credit and an...
Can I add a semi-thread hijack question?
How does the insurance company decide how much my car's worth? I want to try to figure out what coverage I'm actually getting for my premium. The insurance company (USAA, by the way) is reluctant to explain it to me, but they claim that just looking at...
I agree with you that the general advice makes no sense whatsoever. It makes more sense to me to base the size of the policy on what's the maximum likely damages you could get sued for.
The way I understand it, if you get a judgment against you, it goes against your base policy (homeowners or...
