My brother retired early, got bored and now seas only cuts grass at a local golf course. It’s about 20 hours a week, and he makes no money to speak of, but he likes being outdoors and spending time with similar-minded coworkers.
That’s all strange to me. I’m retired and rarely bored, but my...
Yes, easily. Now a story on that...
Moving guys came and put all the stuff I wanted moved onto the truck. Just as they were about done I said "Oh, hey, I forgot I have a couple safes to move too." The big moving guy pales a bit and looks worried but he and his little buddy follow me to the back...
We've been watching Star Trek Enterprise. I like Scott Bakula in that as well.
We've given up on current TV, I think...
Oh - Watched a few episodes of The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, but didn't continue. DW didn't find it as funny as I did.
In a related question, and because I don't remember how to open a new thread, how about our three shotguns? All are family heirlooms. Will the movers ship them? How to box them, if so. Or do we need to take them with us in the (much-crowded now) car?
Thanks in advance. Oh, the move is from...
Oh, I agree...
Just in time for my Annuity to calculate a negative yearly gain and give me no interest. I maybe should have re-thought that annuity...
:) Me too. What a load of fun this part is. According to my reading, I should do three-month T-bills - if I could figure out how to do...
Just wondering if anyone here owns a rental property in Michigan but lives in another state. Even a part-time rental. What are the tax implications? Is it just too much of a PIA?
Thanks in advance.
OP here. You and W2R make good points. I'm pondering the whole thing, so thanks for the input. This was just the first stop for some input from experienced folks like y'all.
We live in TX, but are working on purchasing a home in MI so I can be closer to my brother during the summers. I have no idea how to manage the other house while we are not there. What do y'all do?
We had the same thing happen on our main card. Got an alert that someone used in it North Dakota. The charge wasn't much, a couple dollars, but I think they were testing to see if they could get away with it. Funny thing was, the bank said it was an in-person charge - they had the number, but...
Welcome, Nick! We all wish we'd started earlier. Had I some of the knowledge of these wonderful folks on the forum when I was younger, I would have done many things differently. Hindsight, as they say, is 20/20.
There are great folks here.
If I could go back in time, I'd slap some sense into my stupid, younger self.
I do have regrets. There are things I would do differently. But would I end up here? I doubt it, so I guess, all things considered, I'm okay.
Time travel talk is weird. :)
+1 This community really is awesome. You're very wise to come to them BEFORE retiring and getting advice.
I just get to read about the things I should have done better... :)
So you have all the gear you need to play the new Elite. It is upper end graphics, and an entire universe, but still retains much of the premise of the original Elite.
I hear you, Walt. There's a long story to it, but we took a train trip which inspired me to start a new blog: The Traveling Grouch. (Bought the domain name and everything.) I thought I was done writing in it, but I find that each trip gives me one more thing to write about. I'm composing a bit...
I love reading what y'all post. I'm not all that good at trading, but I trade on instinct. The facts just confuse me.
BTW, I'm all out as of last Friday. I'll wait until I go back into the market.
Para, cleaning coins in any manner is a big no-no. I don't collect coins any more, but did for years. I still have my penny collection - one of those old paper folders with slots for the pennies. It brings back nice memories and that's the best thing a hobby can do, isn't it?
Welcome to the forum, young man. You don't need to live like a monk to save, but as Nick12 says (EVERYONE says) live below your means and you'll do well.
+1 Gas chain saws require a more maintenance, but my brother cut his leg using his electric chain saw. Just be careful.
Just as a side note, I love the manual tree saws with the large teeth. They can do limbs nicely.
