IRMAA - how to avoid with this xtra tax

I had a similar situation. We sold a rental property in 2020 and so our income was super high that year (plus lots of taxes!). Then, I retired in 2021 and so my income was much lower that year. "Stop Working" is one of the allowable exemptions and so I submitted form SSA-44 and requested they...

Consolidating Cash Assets to a Single Brokerage - Fidelity or Schwab?

I have been using Schwab for over 30 years and also have an account with Fidelity. I really like the customer service with Schwab. A couple of the features that work especially well are their Donor Advised Fund and international banking (i.e., being able to do international transfers). I only...

    Canada travel

We love traveling to the Sunshine Coast. We recently did a couple short trips and ArriveCAN was required at the border. On the way home we used our Global Entry card which worked really well (virtually no line or wait).

Poll:Did you receive a "package" from your employer when you retired?

There is a good book "How to Engineer Your Layoff" by Sam Dogen (aka The Financial Samurai). It includes many checklists and strategies for the time period that leads up to leaving a career or job. Some of the things covered might not apply but others will or will at least give you ideas for...

Questioning the 4% plan in retirement

My reply is regarding your comment: "isn't there another plan, like a spend down plan and enjoy the assets slowly?" The answer is yes, there is. On the FireCalc website there is a reference to a book named Nest Egg Care by Tom Canfield. In this book, the author outlines and approach for how to...

Fed Up of Quicken, Moving to Moneydance 2021 in the New Year.

Thanks for the info on Full View. I am going to take a look at that. I have been using Mint for tracking categories and then download the data to MS Access. One thing I really like with Access is being able to print PDF reports.
