    The best part

I posted this (see below) on these forums less than three months ago. As of today, my net worth is even HIGHER than it was on March 1st. And the best part is I didn't even have ONE sleepless night. God bless...

Has anybody changed their mind about their investing strategy going forward?

Given your username I assume you’re in your late 40’s (like me) or early 50’s, so I’m curious about your AA. You seem to have a very low equity concentration. How come?

Has anybody changed their mind about their investing strategy going forward?

The only thing I’m tweaking is to have my advisor shift a slightly greater amount of my AA to high quality dividend stocks to be sure my interest and dividends can meet my living expenses even if stocks dive 90 percent. In the last couple of weeks he had me in a couple non-dividend stocks which...

Has anyone here caught the Virus, or know anyone who has?

A guy who teaches with me at my college (we teach the same course) was one of the first confirmed cases in NYC. I found out about him TWO WEEKS AGO which feels like a lifetime now. He’s in his mid-60’s and was hospitalized. Haven’t heard how he’s doing.

    CNBC predicts end of FIRE?

Funny how FIRE increases in popularity during periods of easy money. When twenty somethings start setting up FIRE channels on YouTube, that’s probably a good time to sell stocks. [emoji4]

Is living off of dividends an illusion?

I read just now that Boeing announced they’re suspending their dividend. I own lots of Boeing shares and that dividend funded part of my living expenses. So, while it may be rare for companies to play around with dividends, it is happening, so be careful. It’s not like there’s any legal...

    CNBC predicts end of FIRE?

CNBC: "The Concept of Retiring Early Could Disappear Due to Coronavirus" One moonbat (who believes "having a relationship" with your money is the key to financial independence) makes a prediction, so the media run with it as if it's a new reality. Good Lord...

Where's bottom .. any humorous popular quotes to share?

Once people start earnestly talking about the end of capitalism, the end of civilization, etc (I’m hearing that on podcasts right now), then we’re probably close to bottom.

    I’m already there! Reassuring. [emoji106]

    100% stocks? Why?

The only part I don’t follow is why volatility is my friend (if I don’t need to draw from my portfolio). Does greater volatility somehow correlate with greater long-term returns?

    100% stocks? Why?

Thank you for this extremely thoughtful response. That question you recommend to ask oneself is not a way I’ve looked at it before. For me, the clear answer is “I am absolutely willing to give up long-term gains to minimize volatility.” Does that mean I’m a conservative investor? (I mean, I am...

    100% stocks? Why?

This is exactly where I am mentally, and I attribute it entirely to having retired into the 2008 crisis, which felt like the end of the world. Turns out in a weird way that crisis was a blessing because experiencing it has kept me from falling into a black hole of despair this time.

    100% stocks? Why?

My back-up data is my strong opinion. I’ve run FireCalc with lots of different allocations, and my success rate has dipped significantly every time with increased stocks. Why I’m shocked is because this is a retirement forum and I’ve never heard a single expert or adviser state that a...

    100% stocks? Why?

I’ve noticed a shocking number of people in this group mention that they have 100% of their portfolio in stocks. What?! Why?! Sure, maybe some are very young or have big stakes in other assets, like real estate, but even so, there is never, ever a good reason to have 100% in stocks. I’m 49...

    V-shaped or U-shaped recovery?

Don’t sell your stocks! That would be incredibly foolish. And the round 2 and round 3 risk will be gone as soon as ee have a vaccine/cure, which will be sooner than you think.

I know, but it’s still therapeutic sometimes to talk about it.

    V-shaped or U-shaped recovery?

Any theories out there on how long it will take for markets to recover once we’ve gotten COVID-19 under control? I’m thinking markets will pop back up quickly (V) because the economy was very strong going into this and the shock to the system was sudden and dramatic. Agree? Disagree?

Retiring in a bear or Recession Market

I retired at 39 in January 09 two months before the floor in the Dow. It was scary and unnerving but I never touched my portfolio beyond annual rebalancing and ten years later I had doubled my wealth. 60% bonds and dividends for cash flow kept me from having a nervous breakdown. This time I am...
