    S&P 500 Prediction 2024

Every one of my points is a feeder into why we are in a situation where it seems stonks (S&P) only go up. If we don't want a context discussion, my prediction is we hit around 5500, and then correct to around 4500 this year as long as nothing breaks or the FED doesn't do something crazy.

    S&P 500 Prediction 2024

Inflation can look like economic growth for a while, and the stock market isn't the economy. Liquidity conditions are as loose as they were before the rate hiking cycle. The government is running record non-emergency deficits, and pulling consumption forward. We are still the world reserve...

    S&P 500 Prediction 2024

We could have a classic blow off top, and you could miss some upside. That said, good minds say to be bearish when the crowd is bullish, and bullish when they are bearish. Look at this thread. 80+% bullish. ?

    S&P 500 Prediction 2024

It is in line with valuations and earnings. Stocks right now are a casino based on global liquidity, but could mean revert.

    S&P 500 Prediction 2024

It is hard to predict with the election and central planning govt & fed skewing the market. I would think we could go violently sideways, and end up between 4500 and 5000. I also could see a 3500 to bring valuations in line with reality.

GI Bill, Education Benefits to transfer to grandchildren, College funding questions

My wife and I both transferred ours, which works out to 24 month each for our three kids. They get the same benefits a servicemember would get. Basically E-5 BAH and up the the highest in state undergrad tuition. I am doing a 504 investment plan for each to supplement another year or two...

49yo Retired Military, and now what?

You pegged the amounts. Add $2600/mo VA. The only thing keeping me from FIRE now is expensive private school and my desire to buy property in Idaho and Argentina. I do want to do more with the boys. They are 7 and 5 now, so I need to do it soon. RV trips and MAC flights during their school...

49yo Retired Military, and now what?

Sounds like you are in the same situation as my wife and I. I declined O5 to retire at 24, and my wife gets promoted to O5 next year. The only thing that keeps me working is putting three kids through private school and our house where we had to build a Granny flat for my Mom in HCOL Northern...

What got you excited about retirement saving?

I think having no debt and seeing how easy it is to FIRE in a no-debt situation. Saving and FIRE at 45 looks realistic with some good saving the next 2-3yrs.

Hopefully that changes. Skilled trades are well paid, and are careers that should be respected.

First Man on the Moon - Where were you?

My Dad was a Troop Leader in Eastern WA / North ID in the late 80s / early 90s. I remember a jamboree when they were playing "We Didn't Start the Fire" and everyone had their lighters lit at night like a concert. Good times.

    College Costs, why?

What do you expect when the government offers to guarantee $200k to subsidize a C student for four years getting an underwater basket weaving degree (read, booze filled party)? Without government, lending institutions would weigh the ability to pay back, so doctors, engineers, etc would be...

    Buying Gold?

Everyone here keeps using the word "investment" when talking about physical gold. It is not an investment. Mining companies are an investment. Physical gold should be compared to a savings account. It is one way to save and hedge against fiat currencies.

    Buying Gold?

We use gold in our quantum computers. There are many high end industrial uses.

    Singapore restaurants

Stay out of Clark Quay and Boat Quay unless you enjoy overpaying. There are good restaurants on Arab Street, and the Chili Crab is amazing at the local restaurants off the Geylang bahru MTA stop (though that is by the Red Light district, so don't get lost there). There is also a lot of expats...

Do you plan to increase Equity/Stock Holdings before Fed pauses rate hikes?

I would wait until you see how quantitative tightening at the same time as Treasury refilling their General Account goes. Both are sucking liquidity out of the system in the next few months.
