    Calamos Structured Protection ETFs

I know we've all seen structured products before but this is the first I've seen with 100% downside protection and a reasonable fee (69 bps). So from what I gather, the most you can lose is .69% and the most you can make is 8.50% based on the first offering (CPSM). Any thoughts on this? I'm...

    7 years FIRE'd

I'll be 52 and calling it quits on 12/31/24 (right after I get my Holiday bonus check...lol) after 35 years in the financial services industry . While I know this will probably be the longest year of my life, I'm already less stressed than I've ever been. Just seeing the light at the end of the...

Has anyone tried to rollover funds from a 529 to a Roth IRA yet?

I called the New york 529 plan folks who told me that it is the brokerage firm that holds the Roth IRA that must send them a transfer request with a letter of acceptance. There is no way to do this on their website. Just curious what others are hearing. Thanks!

Financial Institutions Refused to Honor Her Power of Attorney

Haha...I spent the best 11 years of my career as a Financial Consultant at a Schwab branch....:)

Financial Institutions Refused to Honor Her Power of Attorney

You will have zero issues when she passes. You will be immediately removed from her accounts and when you obtain the proper documents, you will have authority again. Its a very efficient process and a Schwab Estate specialist will walk you through it.

Financial Institutions Refused to Honor Her Power of Attorney

You should never expect to be able to transact in a deceased person's account. A POA ceases upon death of the account holder. Period. You no longer have authority. In order to regain authority, show up with the Letters of Testamentary, Get a tax ID # for the Estate and open an estate account...

    Timing of Inherited IRA Withdrawals

Thanks for all the responses. My quandary is a little more complicated. At retirement we will still have pension income of $60K and $35K of dividend income from the taxable account. So yes our income will be less but not $0. Another complicating factor is where my fixed income holdings are...

    Timing of Inherited IRA Withdrawals

Thanks for the ideas all. Never thought of re-allocating. I guess hoping for lower performance is kind of counter intuitive. But from an allocation standpoint it makes sense.

    Timing of Inherited IRA Withdrawals

Hi All, Just looking for some opinions on what you would do if you were me in order to minimize the tax impact if inherited IRA withdrawals. I have about $300K in an inherited IRA that I have to take RMDs from and fully withdraw by the end of 2033. The allocation currently is about 80%...

Possibly the worst start to retirement ever!!!

I went to Urgent Care first. After I met with an attorney they referred me to an Orthopedist. The Orthopedist then in turn referred me to Physical Therapy.

    Poll: Have you had Covid?

I don't know and don't want to know. I never had symptoms but I guess I may have been asymptomatic. If a doctor ever tests me for antibodies I would make sure they do not tell me the results. I do not want to start imagining symptoms that aren't really there.

    Jury Duty dress code

If you don't want to get chosen, don't shave, don't comb your hair and wear the clothes that you wear while painting the house. I swear I always do this and have NEVER been chosen.

Possibly the worst start to retirement ever!!!

You may have injuries that will show up in the coming weeks. This happened to me 6 months ago. I am in constant pain. My advice: Go to the Doctor, Hire a personal injury attorney ASAP (it wont cost you anything), Delete this post and don't talk to anyone about it. Good Luck.

    Radical thought

UPRO is not meant to be a long term holding. Don't think that if the S&P averages 8% annually over the next 10 years that you're going to average 24. It doesn't work that way.

Open both Fidelity and Charles Schwab?

    1. IMHO Fidelity's Retirement Income Planner is way better than any planning tool Schwab offers. 2. SIPC does NOT cover you in the event of brokerage firm insolvency. It is the required segregation of assets (firm/customer) that does.

    Eggs in one basket

I worked for Schwab for 11 years and my substantial knowledge of their policies and procedures is specifically why I am comfortable having 100% of my assets there.

Poll: Which Brokerage(s) do you use? Switching? See 1st Post for Poll Details.

This comparison is flawed. Schwab's figure includes it's institutional business (custody for RIAs) while Fidelity's figure excludes it. If you include Fidelity's institutional business it would be much larger than all.

Converting Primary Home to Rental but maintaining $500K Exclusion

Thanks for all the responses. Some real good advice here. I think the best thing to do is not rent it out and maintain NY residency even if we spend most of our time in Florida. I may be paying state income tax on some pension and investment income but that is minor compared to the capital gains...

Converting Primary Home to Rental but maintaining $500K Exclusion

It would not be easily replaceable if we decide FL isn't for us. It's a young house in a high demand, densely populated area, I'm thinking that future appreciation could be more than whatever portfolio I invest the proceeds in.

Converting Primary Home to Rental but maintaining $500K Exclusion

Hi All, After I FIRE late next year, I and DW want to spend most of the time in Florida and would like to rent out our primary home in NY. However we have a large unrealized gain on the primary home and obviously we don't want to lose the $500K (Section 121) capital gain exemption. So Every...
