    When is enough , enough?

For most of my life, it was 1) can I afford this Often the answer was no, not yet.

    When is enough , enough?

The nice thing is, if you have money in the bank, or a reliable income, or both, you know what you can afford. You can afford part of what you have in the bank. Always keep some aside, in case you want, or need, to go on vacation. Or have an unexpected bill. Or find somebody who needs that...

    When is enough , enough?

When is enough , enough? Good question? No easy, or right, answer. I originally thought this thread was about money, but it took on a whole new meaning after the last few posts. Sometimes toxic people have to be ignored. But that is hard to do when they are a relative. Some random...

    Timing of Inherited IRA Withdrawals

This makes sense to me. Partially because you have to drain the inherited account in 10 years, and hopefully your other accounts will last more than 10 years. It makes sense to hold more stable investments in the account you have to drain first. I had not thought about that before now, so thanks...

    Withdrawal Strategies

Some might consider it overthinking, or a first world problem. But I consider it careful planning given what we know, or do not know. I fully plan to have most of my cash like bucket to be spent when I collect SS at 70. SS plus annuities should be enough to keep us "comfortable enough". Any...

Do you Autopay your Monthly Bills?

I like the concept. But am leery of the execution. I'm taking baby steps

College funds and offspring who have "stopped out"

One of my kids went on a hiatus. Of and on for about 8 years. I gently suggested they try to finish their degree. Perhaps part time. They eventually finished it  They are not directly using that degree to make money. But it was good training, and one day might let them check the box on...

Help needed with early withdrawals (under 59) from retirement accounts

I have more than once suggested using a Roth as an emergency fund. See https://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Roth_IRA_as_an_emergency_fund If you do not have an emergency fund in a bank account, I'd probably take your contributions back out of your Roth, and use that to fund your emergency. Keep...

Why bother diversified? Why not all in Index SP500?

You might be surprised. My guess is you are above average on the this forum, and way above average people.

    Jury Duty dress code

Probably all juries should be made of people who have faced charges. A Jury of you peers.

    Jury Duty dress code

Perhaps the secret is to show up in "a tie-dyed t-shirt, flowery shorts and flipflops."

    Jury Duty dress code

I'm still trying to get used to the "concept" of a jury of your peers. I've never been accused of any crime. So I am not a peer.

I think you have to be smile and be happy

Why bother diversified? Why not all in Index SP500?

Eventually I want to "set it and forget it". I probably would not choose 100% in an S&P 500 index fund. I have not decided what I want yet. If I was going to go all USA stocks I might choose a Russel 3000 index, just to add more companies. But I like some international exposure, some bonds...

    Investing into a Brewery

You might consider investing one pint at a time.

    Jury Duty dress code

I would not buy new cloths to serve on a jury. If the cloths I already owned were not good enough I'd ask for a hardship withdrawal.

Paying Taxes in Retirement With Tax Withholding Distributions

I do not like to pay fees, or interest. So I pay my taxes. On time.

Paying Taxes in Retirement With Tax Withholding Distributions

The scheme does not reduce your taxes. It just rearranges when you pay them.

Paying Taxes in Retirement With Tax Withholding Distributions

All you need is $800k in taxable account. And $800k in an IRA that you can withdraw. And follow the 60 day rule. The net income is taxable. Maye not today, but one day.

    Auto accident lawsuit

Hypothetically speaking. I could have been the injured party!

    Auto accident lawsuit

I just ignore Hypothetically speaking. In your Hypothetical situation I would let the insurance company handle it

    Investing into a Brewery

    Investing into a Brewery

If you can afford to loose that investment, why not give it a try. You might have a lifetime supply of GF beer. And perhaps be able to influence its flavor. I would not invest in it to make money. You might get lucky. But the odds are against it. But you might make friends, and have a source...

Paying Taxes in Retirement With Tax Withholding Distributions

That is how I pay my taxes. One big withholding near the end of the year. Seems to work fine :) I do not need to bother with using the 60 day rollover angle since my taxable balance is small.
