Reviewing Plan on a Lazy Sunday

I have thought of that one, and I decided I just can't plan for every contingency or I will wind up never retiring. I am trying to hit as many as I can, while still having some time to enjoy some retirement. Flieger

Reviewing Plan on a Lazy Sunday

Came back to this thread, seems to have died off, but I like this suggestion. One thing I did find from suggestions here, was the impact of getting hit by the beer truck (as one person put it) on discretionary funds. Change in SS, tax impact etc were a little more (for DW) than I expected...

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Watching Sugar on Apple. I went in to it knowing nothing about it, but figured out "where they were from" pretty quickly. Not great, but i keep watching. Flieger

Poll about do you like to dance? men vs ladies

I love to dance! Now, do people love watching me? Depends if they are ready for some belly laughs! Flieger

Career advice sought for young student about to start college.

I second engineering if she likes math and sciences. Mechanical or Industrial engineering (more and more automation driven) and a female can really pan out. If math and science aren't her thing, is she outgoing and personable? Moving her way through HR can be a good path as well. You mentioned...

    Standard Deduction Tracking

I think I will look at this if the laws don't change substantially. Thanks for posting!

Asking for severance in exchange to quit

I once had a manager like that. I won't go in to details, but I had the opportunity to ruin his career, and took it. Wouldn't have if he had been up front and worked the proper way to get the performance he expected. The expectation was made clear with the next VP I reported to, and I was with...

State Income Tax: not always perfect

Just a reminder. Not all "educated" are high earners (re: need for student loan forgiveness), and not all "uneducated" are low earners (re: trades, CNC Ops, Maint Techs, etc). Flieger

    Net worth calculator

Outside of whether SS or Annuity (same thing IMO) is counted as an asset, I don't see a big question here. It's just a matter of if you want to count the silverware in the cabinet value or not. Is it an asset, sure. Does it make a difference to the $2MM total? :nonono: Exactly. BTW, try to...

    Net worth calculator

It amazes me the continuing saga/debate on NW. It really is simple: Assets minus Liabilities. All the consternation on what is used for withdrawal rate, etc are individual determinations. I don't use NW to determine WR, but that doesn't change the calculation for NW. Flieger

    TMobile internet

Not sure if this is what you mean, but I exit the T-Mobile Modem/Router to a Cat6 switch which feeds 6 TV's. I've had 3 going at once (and laptop on wireless) with no problems. Service does drop once in a while and I have to "restart" the router. Flieger

    Fidelity free Turbotax offer

I looked on Fidelity back when this thread started and the Free TT was not there. I decided to do taxes late (as I know I will be paying) then went back to Fidelity to check out if some tax forms were ready, and lo and behold, TT Premier was $5 for both Fed and State!

    First million is enough

Interesting and good info on military (my Dad, Navy Sr Chief - E8) and also for Teachers (like my sister). Neither had high income, but both have/had nice pension and healthcare which made retiring much easier. Thanks for sharing. Flieger

    First million is enough

You are correct in this statement for sure! While this is an ER site, I find so much useful information (even for me as an LR person - Late Retire?) and really appreciate all of the info here. Flieger

    First million is enough

I was so glad to see this thread! As a person with just over $1MM (about $1.3M - not NW, retirement savings) I recently posted about upcoming retirement where SS covers 60-70% of "needed" income, with remainder coming from withdrawals. I "quote" needed as I included in the income enough to...

Reducing stock exposure in Retirement, age 60+

I do agree that would be excellent. I often wonder though, if I have no legacy to leave, does it matter if what I have left is compared to inflation? If I am adjusting my withdrawal for cost of living change (2.5% increase per year or something like that), and my $1,000,000 portfolio is...
