    B&B Recommendation in New Orleans?

I am going to New Orleans from Nov 19-23. I've been many times before, but never married :) I'd like to find a romantic B&B within walking distance of the french quarter. It would be nice if it was one of those small ones where the owner lives there as well, and you have a "communal breakfast"...

    Leveraged ETF risk

The leveraged ETFs do not give you 2x the yearly return, they give you 2x the DAILY return. Read up on something called the "constant leverage trap". Here is a good explanation: The Case Against Leveraged ETFs - Seeking Alpha

    Out Of Wellesley?

Do you have Admiral Shares of Wellesley? If not, if you don't have a capital gain built up in Welly, I think it is a no-brainer to move to the Vanguard Target Retirement Income fund. Here is why I would make the decision: Expense ratio (assuming non-admiral shares): TR: .19% Well: .25% Current...

    Score One for Suze Orman

Oh yeah, I love Dave and his "Growth mutual funds" that return 12%. And if yours doesn't, you picked the wrong fund! :) But Suze is no better with investment advice. She constantly goes after hot money funds, talks about certain asset classes being overvalued, all the while keeping all her own...

    Score One for Suze Orman

Dave seems to be the epitome of the Fox News persona, good Christian values, tithing, very breadbasket Middle America. Suze is much more "progressive" and liberal, a brightly colored lesbian. Both give straight forward "get out of debt" advice, but generally I think the blue states like Suze...

European Index Fund? - Billy and Akaisha

You can certainly buy foreign ETFs. There are many on the various european exchanges. ETFs will require a brokerage account and a commission though. Here is the iShares MSCI World ETF and the exchanges it trades: iShares International Many will think 10% is unsustainable though, just to...

    vitamins

After a bunch of research, I settled on the "Source Naturals Life Force Multiple". It was one of the highest rated (and priced within reason) as far as bio-availability in a book called "Comparative Book of Nutritional Supplements" or something similar. I generally get it from vitacost. Get...

    Krav Maga anyone????

I took one of the off-shoots of Krav Maga called Haganah for a better part of a year. I agree with Nords, the instructor can make a world of difference, but there are "licensing" requirements that need to be met to teach Krav Maga, so most teachers will have training and some credentials. I can...

photogram: tampa heights & ybor city

This was terrific, especially the commentary! I can't wait for your Daytona spread, as I grew up in Ormond Beach :) I also spent many weekends in Ybor City in my youth... Good times. It is sorta a mini-New Orleans.

How Do You Like Your REIT?

Do you mean commissions for buying/selling? This would be the same in either taxable or tax-advantaged accounts. Generally, ETFs are much more tax efficient than mutual funds. REITs, though are generally not recommended for taxable accounts. Have you checked out the pre and post-tax numbers on...

Need Help with Credit Card Negotiation Hook

You can generally call up and negotiate directly with the credit card companies. Since it is unsecured debt, they are happy to take pennies on the dollar a lot of times. It almost makes me upset that I save as well as I do, when I could have lived extravagantly only to dump the debt later...

Not to hijack this thread, but my employer has recently added the Roth feature to the 401k. Have you guys decided to use the feature? I find it very hard to calculate whether to jump in or not. Macroeconomists! Where does the difference "go" from currency to currency?

I do think it is becoming a bigger concern this election season. I haven't heard as much about abortion, gay marriage, or other nonsense deflecting from real issues. I have heard a lot about the cost of the war, medicare and social security, so I think something is bound to start changing for...
