    Roth IRA question

Interesting that you point that out because I did a Traditional IRA to Roth IRA conversion in 2012 of $47,616. Luckily I found my record of that because I knew that I did a conversion back then but I would have never remembered a number like that. I've only done one conversion. So I guess...

    Roth IRA question

Thank you so much for the quick explanations! I simulated the Roth distribution using HR Block Tax Software for Tax Year 2023 and I used code J for the simulated 1099-R entry. After the program asked me a few more questions, it asked for my basis in Roth contributions that it entered on line...

    Roth IRA question

In 2024, I expect to withdraw $6,000 from my Roth IRA to pay expenses. I will be age 53 and my Roth IRA was opened (and still is) with Vanguard in 2004. I contributed the maximum amounts allowed each year during the years from 2004 to 2012. My question is about doing taxes for this expected...

Investment and or Retirement account cybersecurity and protection

Sorry, even this article is over 2 years old, and even though the specific example it gives of someone being duped by fake customer service over the phone is not so much my concern. However, the later part of the article about all of the stipulations, fine print, and potential hoops to jump...

It's been 13 years but I'm back! Now how to protect our IRAs?

I already had a passcode with AT&T also, but when the number was ported to T-Mobile (within 48 hours), AT&T didn't tell me definitely whether the requester used the correct passcode or not. They were basically like "you must have given someone you know your passcode." But these were just...

It's been 13 years but I'm back! Now how to protect our IRAs?

Hi! I joined the forum in 2005 and last posted in 2008, wow. Anyway, our IRAs (DW and me) have grown at Vanguard in index funds since then (thank you lengthy bull market) and now after my own identity theft scare recently where someone fraudulently ported my phone number (I finally got it back...

    The coming healthcare police state

Privacy is true price of healthy worker discounts - Breaking Bioethics - MSNBC.com I realize it can turn into an emotional debate between the (now) "healthy" and the "unhealthy" people, but does anyone have opinions on this article about recent health care plans and their carrot/stick approach...

    $1 vs. $50,000

I've read the mental accounting paper and I have also been intrigued about the perceived value of monetary amounts. The other day I was wondering if the perceived value could sometimes be correlated with one's net worth. For example, what about an amount of .01% of net worth? Sounds very...

Accumulators (and others) using Target Retirement or other "life-cycle" funds

Re: Accumulators (and others) using Target Retirement or other "life-cycle" fund I'm in a similar situation. I'm a 35 yr old software engineer, my wife is 34, no kids yet. What Broadband and Web Browser do you use??

There is a Firefox add-in called "IE tab" that allows you to switch to render the page as Internet Explorer would render it, all from within Firefox. I've had pretty good luck with it when a page doesn't like Firefox. I just hit a button in Firefox to switch the page to IE.

Anyone see the 60 minutes on work last night?

After reading this whole thread so far, all I can say is: I think this is why someone created an ER forum in the first place! :) So hopefully, eventually it won't matter to us what "salary" means!
