Looking for a town to raise children

I'm not sure that this is the right place to ask the question, but I am young and dreaming... My wife and I have a 3.5 mo. old baby and live in Arlington, VA. We love Arlington, but to afford it we don't live in the best neighborhood. It was ok before we were parents, but the kids in the area...

Influences on how you think about money

I'd have to give credit to 3 areas for my desire to retire...early. Parents & In-laws (too poor to retire in their 60's, that won't be me) Everyone around me (this board, casual observation of: neighbors, co-workers, clients, etc) And most especially, 20/20 Hindsight! (I'm still quite young...

Outlook for a 27 yr old who wants to quit

How have any of you handled saving for retirement when starting a business? Right now I put money into a SEP at the end of the year, but I'd like to do it regularly. Should I expect that retirement funds are the low man on the totem pole until I have a broader outlook for the company?

Outlook for a 27 yr old who wants to quit

Sisyphus, thanks. I'm not too worried about being in a flooded field. I think one of the main problems people have with business is to sell their price. I have been selling my value and I'm confident I can continue to do so. Customers will screw you if they buy your price, but not necessarily if...

I have no intention of spamming the board. Thanks for the heads up. I'll just leave it alone. Thanks everyone for your encouraging words!

Outlook for a 27 yr old who wants to quit

I'd love to let everyone know about it when I launch. Is that against the board policy? I couldn't find anything on advertising like that.

Outlook for a 27 yr old who wants to quit

I plan to roll my measley SEP ($500) into an individual 401k at fidelity so I can roll my real 401k money there in my own business. My biggest fear, after paying for the roof over my head, is being able to continue to save for retirement. I anticipate that it will basically stop, or I at least...

Outlook for a 27 yr old who wants to quit

I'm married with no kids at 27 and I'm planning on quitting my job in a few months to start a business in graphic design and web development. I'm not totally happy at work and I've been dreaming of my own business for 7 years. I'd love some reaction and advice. Here's my current situation...

    Another Tax Question: IRA Contributions

I have a 401k at my day job, and a SEP-IRA in my side business. In 2006 I will probably switch to a 401k so that when I go out on my own, I can just rollover into one account. Call Fidelity, they are very helpful.

27, married and semi-obsessed with retiring early

Good info. I was ecstatic to pay off my car loan and I'm eyeing my wife's school loans in a similar way, but those have such a low rate that it wouldn't make much sense to pay off compared to things like my mortgage. Perhaps I want to pay it off because I know its something that's within my...

27, married and semi-obsessed with retiring early

I've found this forum a few months ago and have been avidly reading people's opinions. Without getting into too much detail (althoug I will if I need to) I want to hear what your opinions are on saving for retirement or just killing off mortgage debt. I purchased a duplex in 2003 inside the...
