Do you lack intellectual stimulation after retirement?

I worked for the army. Tofu cloning would be more stimulating. Nowhere but up. Dennis

Never understood them. I'm in 2015 too. Liked the way the numbers looked. I wing everything so why not this too? Uncle Mick, you're my idol. setab

    One Year Retired

Do I ever hear you! I retired March 3 and here we are already a year down the line. I don't like it; I LOVE it! Add rediculous, pointless training to the list of things that I do not miss at all. I'd tell you what I do like, but I don't have time or space. It's great being busy with things you...

    Mac or PC?

Thanks for the info on the printer. I've just gotten back to this after four days without power. Somehow when it's 40 degrees in your house, that takes priority. Maybe moving south isn't such a bad idea. I have looked at prices for MACs and they seem to be considerably higher than comparable...

    calling all RV'rs

How much upkeep/maintenance is involved? I am not handy at all and have seen many RV's stopped along the road. Thanks. It's something I've always wanted to explore buy stayed away from because of my total mechanical ineptness. setab

    Mac or PC?

We are still referring to MAC vs. PC, right? I just find "bang for the buck" to be an interesting phrase in this context. ;D setab

    Mac or PC?

I'm certain this has been covered, but please indulge me since I am computer challenged. I need a good, reliable computer and even better printer for word processing and casual net surfing. I do not need lots of bells and whistles. I write and frequently have to send in manuscripts. Kinkos, etc...

    Does this make sense?

Roth appears to make more sense to me. I'll just have to suck it up and pay the taxes now. Interesting though. I had minimal earned income after March 3 last year when I retired and had more total income on the 1040 than any previous year. Maybe I should have retired sooner! Setab

    Does this make sense?

It's earned income. It is a lump I have in a money market at the moment, but I understand the point. Taxes were already withheld on it, but Iunderstand what you are saying. Thanks for helping me sort it out. setab

    Does this make sense?

Just ran through my taxes. Does it make sense to contribute $4500 to an IRA to save a liittle more than $1100 in taxes. Won't that money, which is post tax just be taxable again? I am retired, but will probably have come minor income this year. Thanks. setab

Did you keep your law license?

All Attorneys in a former life, Did you keep your law license once you retired? I need to renew mine and haven't used it in the year I have been retired. Is there any point? I can't see that I will practice law again, but I worked pretty hard to get it initially. Just wondering. Thanks. setab

Ok down to 9 days, gimmie some ideas....

What difference does it make where you go? Get a few bottles of great Champagne, get naked and stay that way for a week or two. You could even do that at home, just don't answer the door or the phone. Retirement is a great time to...ah...how to say this delicately, reconnect. :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ setab

    A Basic VG Wellington Question

Retired. The money I am talking about is still in a reitrement account. I take minimal amounts out and plan to do the same as long as possible. I live off a COLA's pension. Other investments, not counting house equity are relatively minimal ( less than 50k) and since I have no immediate plans to...

    Part time to no time

And one more late congrats. I practiced privately for a short time before I was a guvment attorney. Been retired since March 06 and don't miss it in the slightest. I wouldn't go back for anything even though I am on half rations now moneywise. It works. It will work for you too. setab

    A Basic VG Wellington Question

Why not? My other VG accounts have done well, but not as well as Wellington. Sorry, couldn't resist. ;D What is the down side of switching? I have followed it for nine months now. It has its ups and downs, but even with that, it is out performing my Target fund and its mirror image WS. Thoughts...

    Anything wrong with this?

Bob, You raise one of my major concerns. While part of my health care is covered, I still have significant out of pocket expenses, and I worry about the long term effects of what you mention. I'll just have to keep an eye on that, I guess. setab

    Anything wrong with this?

As a follow on to my other recent post, I was wondering if the following approach to spending is somehow flawed. Given that I have a pension with COLA and that it covers the basics, is there anything wrong with using the earnings from my IRA each year to supplement? That would leave the...

    Don't forget to spend it.

I was starting to worry. I just wasn't quite making ends meet. Then I realized that I was continuing to invest like before FIRE and not withdrawing anything. My pension covers almost everything, but I put the money in TSP for a reason. Once I figured that in, it was magic. It's there if I need...

How Long Have You Been Retired, UnEmployed, Footloose Fancy Free and Not Working

My wife still works part time because she wants to. she keeps her money in a separate account and does what she wants to with it. Therefore, I consider myself retired. It's been 9 months now, and I totally love it. Have written one book and started another. All I need is a publisher, but even...
