I just ER'd and DW still enjoys working and will work until 45. Like you, I am taking over the household chores so it's a trade-off and so far it seems to work out well. While both working, I would drive us to and from everyday- been doing that for the past 12+ years so she knows that it kind...

Any other VERY early retirees? (in your 30's)

To the OP, it's great that you have the means to retire early and so by all means do it while you can! I am no where near your net worth but FIRE is possible with proper and consistent execution. I've been working in both public and private sectors for the past 20+ years. After a recent turn...

    Investing for a youngster

bode, You have  a good start.  Either way you decided on is okay considering your age.  The important thing is to be discipline in saving and work on up to the max 401K contribution allowed.  There are many factors involve since you have a lot of time and ideas that you get from this board are...

Best vehicle to invest with $10-20K

Thank you all...these are good thoughts.  We are already maxed out on our 401K contributions and agi is slightly under 100K and our income is projected to out pace inflation annually so that means a good no load mutual fund might be a better way to go...thanks LOL! for the link!  I am just...

Best vehicle to invest with $10-20K

Our risk tolerance would fall under high as we still have at least 20 years until retirement and there will be no chance of tapping into this...Aside from the 401ks w/ company matching, we only have a CD with $20K in it. Oh, and we are in the 30% tax bracket.

Best vehicle to invest with $10-20K

Hi folks, I posted several months back about some VULs that we were to cancel.  We are in the process of doing that- replacing them with $1M 30 years term policy each for me and DW.  Once that is completed, we'll cancel our VUL insurance coverage.  We will have some cash from the VUL policies...

Working for a Mega Corp sounds interesting, am I nuts?

[One potential mega-corp advantage is that being just a small cog in the operation, you might find it possible to spend a significant amount of time crusing the web and researching FIRE topics while getting paid for it.] I concur 100%  ;D  Do what ya have to do to maintain the status quo and no...

What do you do for a living-for inspirational purposes?

Yeah tell me about it... ::)  I kind of knew about the charges being high but really didn't know better.  :-\  Now armed with this forum i feel a little better about term insurance.  The policies have about $21K in cash values since policy inception in 1998.  Surrendering them now will yield...

What do you do for a living-for inspirational purposes?

[Anyway, just wondering what your current home is worth, and why you seem so sure of it increasing in value?] Hi there...Well there are a few determining factors.   First, there just isn't much land to build around here anymore and planned communities are far in between.  With that said, we...

Building new house- am I making a mistake

I say go for it if you have the means...and I agreed that if the wife is happy, you will be happy  ;D Our situation is a bit different.  We heard of too many building house horror stories from differrent people, including a good friend of mine, so we opted in spending $500K+ on a new SFH in a...

What do you do for a living-for inspirational purposes?

You know, that sounds like a project for me to look into.  I am starting to worry about the fees that's going into the policies.  Every month, approx $50 bucks each, is going into the insurance coverage not counting some administrative fees.      Duke
