    Risky New Investment Venue

After having been there for 9 months investing, I have to say it is a very scary proposition indeed. Thinking that everyone applying for a loan at prosper cannot get a loan from a bank is wrong though. I have been getting a 19% return on investment without any defaults at this point and am very...

    Housing: Own versus Rent

I live in Lafayette, Indiana. Home of Purdue. Cost of renting is outrageous the closer you are to the school. Many units rent per person and not a solid $ amount (IE $400/person or $1,200 for 3 etc). I was actually able to secure my home from a foreclosure below market value. I watched the...

Scott Burns Column on Replacing Income versus Expenses

I do understand the way a board works. The same topics over and over again. Everybody has an opinion to share. The bottom line for me is - I received my statements on my investments for the month and realized that I have to continue to work to get more investment money. It is working. My...

Scott Burns Column on Replacing Income versus Expenses

I am probably missing the point here but I figured that I should continue to decrease expenses where ever possible and increase income as well through investments. The idea is that at some point in time my income investments will be more than enough to cover my living expenses and I could...

    Housing: Own versus Rent

I have to agree with personal circumstances/preference point of view express in this thread earlier. I am in the middle of buying. For me it's all about freeing up cashflow for investing purposes. I will be paying less to own (all costs factored in) than my parents paid to rent while I was...

What's life like with 100K/year or more?

I knew presicely what you meant. I was having fun as well as working to create any opportunities that I could for myself ;D

What's life like with 100K/year or more?

I live an hour north of you and would gladly become a student...show me how to make 100k/year. I don't have anything to offer in return though.

    time is money?

Oh no...It just cost me $8.95 to fix a pb&j sandwich as a snack. I can't believe it costs so much but after I figured in the cost of my time which of course is inflated because I have such a high opinion of myself and the worth of my time I realized that I should have got in the car and drove to...

What's life like with 100K/year or more?

If I ever make it to 100k/year or more I'll tell ya. I suspect it won't be much different than it is today. The amounts that get spent/saved would change but the %'s would remain the same. ;)

    My intro

I am 35, I decided to pay myself first (401k up to match), then pay my emergency fund $30 week (I gave it a $250 starting kickoff), then pay down high interest debt with what was left over. So far I have $300 in emergency fund, paid off one credit card and have sent in more than minumums on...

    Risky New Investment Venue

Yes that could be a problem. When prosper finally sets up the accounts to where the lender can earn a decent interest rate on money just sitting in the account it would be less of a problem though. My money wouldn't go out in a loan unless I could recieve a high enough rate to satisfy my risk.

    Risky New Investment Venue

Great responses, it was exactly what I had hoped for. To run an investment idea accrossed a bunch of investors and let them eek out any bad vibes they have. Personally, I agree with most that was said here about the risk as well as time spent doing it. I do find that it has a useful purpose...

    My intro

After browsing the board and confusing myself for a few days, I have come to the conclusion that it is rocket science. I've got the pretax investments in line to take care of the later years but I am having some trouble figuring out what to do to start the RE part of FIRE. What is a good...

    Why won't a 4% SWR last forever?

If in fact it could then it would make sense to set it up to do exactly that. Take 4% each year and in good years where you don't need the full 4% dump the un-needed ammount in a different stable investment you have full access to during the not so good years. I'm just throwing ideas out to get...

    Why won't a 4% SWR last forever?

IRA SEPP payments can't be set up to draw at a variable rate based on 4% can they?

    Why won't a 4% SWR last forever?

Gotcha. So if I decided to FIRE and miscalculated, I could end up watching my portfolio deteriorate and find myself back out in the workforce in a hurry.

This may sound stupid but over the years I tried many different brands of so called Super Glues to fix various broken items and they all failed miserably until.... ....I read and followed the instructions. ??? I still laugh at myself. ;D

I forgot to add that there are more drawbacks to investing there. Prosper doesn't currently pay interest on funds in your prosper account. You don't start recieving interest until a loan gets originated. It can take up to 2 weeks from the time you start a transfer until a loan originates. Even...
